EDC Rotation

Let's see. I have in que for EDC : PM2, Native 5 lt wt, 556-1, 940-2, ZT0450 G10, large & small Sebenza. But lately I have been alternating a large Boker Stockman and a medium Cold Steel carbon v stockman. Both 25-30 years old. Mostly the smaller of the two. Both knives I carried and used daily back when I use to "work" for a living. Carried a stockman for a lot of years. Of the newer models the 556-1 is my favorite for EDC with the Native 5 a close second.

Kershaw Blur s30v (Edit, actually 14c), or Delica 4. The assisted opening on the Blur is excellent. I picked up a deep carry clip for it, and it's nearly invisible with black slacks.

I have "a few" knives to pick from & occasionally I'll stick one of my BMs or Spydercos in my pocket, but they rarely stay there for more than a day. I keep going back to the Sebenza, Hinderers, or even the ZT 0562. One that is always with me no matter what other knife I'm carrying, is the Alox Cadet.

My current EDC rotation is a little wonky. I carry a SOGzilla for utility stuff and bounce between an old beat up SOG flash II and a cheap chinese knife that will remain nameless due to not wanting to lose any more reputation than I have, what little that is...

When I'm hiking I always have an ESEE Izula on me and a microtech crosshair. Sometimes I'll feel adventurous and carry an AK bayonet or a sog daggert II.

At work when I'm on perimeter or trip duty I stick with a SOGzilla or a flash II.

I don't like using expensive knives in the wild. I've broke/lost more $80+ knives than I want to admit. The nice knives stay home and do duty around the house.

Good to hear some love for the Flash 2! Two years ago it was my nicest knife. Now it's one of my cheapest. However, it's still my go-to pocket blade for backpacking & Scoutmastering and second only to my newish G3 for general camp utility. It still shows up for an occasional cameo in my office/urban EDC too.

I carried a Victorinox Spartan as my only knife for nearly 10 years when I lived overseas in Taiwan, and for several years after returning Stateside. I got into modern knives in 1997 when I received an unsolicited knife catalog in the mail. I never did order from the business that sent it, but it made me aware of modern makers for the first time, like Spyderco, Benchmade, Kershaw, etc., as well as traditional companies like Case, which I'd never heard of before either (as a kid, Schrade, Camillus, etc. were the common brands of pocketknives in my area, not Case).

I always carry a SAK of some sort. I've been carrying the same Victorinox Executive for about 18 years, and also carry an Alox Pioneer. Those two are constants. The only time I wouldn't carry the Pioneer would be if I carry my Swisstool Spirit, which nowadays is rarely.

My main one-hand opening knife for the past 2 years has been my large CRK Insingo. I sometimes switch it out for my small Inkosi, or a Delica 4 FFG, Military, or one of the Salt knives, depending.

The flash 2 is a great knife. Lightweight, great action (at least on mine), love the deep carry clip, the plastic jimping is functional but not overly abrasive, and really for all the crap AUS8 gets, it takes and maintains an edge very well. The TiNi on mine is scratched to all get out (7 years of use), but she works and works and works. Glad to see others share the same sentiment.

My work rotation is Spyderco, Benchmade, ZT. My days off rotation is fixed blade Fiddle Back, Bradford, Steingass. I spice it up when I go through my collection and run across something haven't seen in a while.

I’ve owned more pm2s than any other single type of knife, I’ll sell one and miss it and buy another one. My benchmade 940 is one of my oldest knives and one which I can’t imagine I’ll ever sell. There’s a reason some of these are considered “classics”.

My personal opinion... If you can't track down your ideal knife (I know I can't), it's because you don't really need any particular one most of the time.

IMO, the better a knife (or any tool) is at any given task, the more it loses out on others. The more universal a knife is, the less ideal it is for any one specific task. I would hate to limit myself to one knife for sawing branches, cutting cardboard, preparing meals, opening letters, cutting bandages, scoring drywall, opening blister packs, etc.

For example, when I used to cut down cardboard crates used for holding entire pallets of watermelons, unions, etc. (very thigh cardboard) for a half hour per day, my 99 cent box cutter was worth more to me for my job than any of the higher end knives I currently own. It was the ideal knife for that time in my life. Currently I don't do one specific task requiring a knife often enough (not including cooking which I use kitchen knives) to specify a particular knife for EDC.

It's pretty amazing how many people appear to have just read the title of this thread and not the actual first post.

Same thing for me since I got my delica 4 ... it pushed most of the usual knives out of my pocket

My present rotation is mainly made of Delica 4, small inkosi and small insingo

PM2, large Inkosi, large sebenza and a couple of ZT bring me some
Fun. During the week end when I can carry larger blades

What was interesting with the delica is that it is cheap, light while being all you need from a knife in 99% of the time

My "return to" knives are PM2, Manix 2, Police, Chinook ...

I am Spyderco's clingy ex-girlfriend.
Recently purchased the cruwear manix2 sprint and I love it, going to re-up the pm2 when the maxamet version drops.

I am also involved with your ex-gf, she gets around.

EDIT

Read too quick and I thought you had written spidey was an ex you kept coming back to. Makes sense how you put it cuz spyderco's are keepers.

I've been a Chris Reeve guy for quite a while, but wanted to try something different as I tend to only use the CRK for soft use, vs. harder (this might get scratched) use. I tried a few Spyderco's: Slysz Bowie, PM2, Native, Delica, etc. but just never found the one.

I had always heard how people recommended the Endura, but always thought it was kind of ugly. After carrying the Delica for a while, I decided it was nice, but I wanted a bigger version in something better than the VG10.

Enter the Endura in ZDP-189.

As soon as I took this out of the box I was impressed. After a few tweaks (sanding the handle opening edges and chamfering the Spydie hole), and a couple drops of 10 wt nano, this thing is absolutely Amazing.

I have to say that the Endura looks much better in person, and the ergos are perfect for me. The ZDP blade came sharp, and has stayed sharp.

All in all, I'll have to agree with @Blues Bender . This Spyderco Endura in ZDP-189 thing is pretty much perfect, and has not left my pocket since I got it!

If its not my Protech TR5, lately I've really been liking the Tenacious my bud gifted me. Smooth as butter opening and the all black look which I prefer. I changed it to tip up carry and adjusted the pivot slighty.
Keychain: SOG Centi

Basically started with a Delica, went through the rounds like you're talking about OP (ZT, Benchamde, Microtech etc.) wound up at Chris Reeve. Small Seb 21, then Inkosi and Umnumzaan. Now my girlfriend carries the Large Inkosi, I carry the small 21 and a ZDP Endura. I missed the slicy delica but found that I needed something a little longer for my slicing cuts and something a bit more robust for everything else (small 21). Only had the Endura a week really, but its not going anywhere.

Still carry my Zaan on the weekend for a change up

While admittedly not as fancy as some other folks, even though I've been delving more into higher quality knives I'm very particular with when and where I spend my money and I can still appreciate the quality that can be found in good value as well.
I still keep and carry a few kershaws; Scramblers, Blurs, a Tremor, and a small Emerson. (Thermite gaw coming soon, tbd), and my S&W in the car at all times.

The real classic though, Now that I have 2 new (albeit higher end) 110's ever since my birthday last month, I'm wondering how I got by for so long without (a basic) one?
