EDC to complement my Glock 29

Ok, I was a bit condescending. Sorry bout that. But what I meant about the military was that the overall length was a bit much if you wanted a knife for skinning. IMO, its too big to edc period. And yes I used a broad generalization, but my point was that most of the gun guys I know carry huge and/or overbuilt knives for some reason that I cannot fathom. If you have a primary defensive tool (your glock), then you can carry however small a knife you want, because its purely for utility purposes. Thats how I look at it anyway.

And Im sorry if I offended you TheJeepster, but I just find the concept of hunting with a glock pretty hilarious. But obviously you have prepared for criticism, seeing as how you jumped on that part of my post specifically and earlier how you felt the need to mention multiple times the power equivalency of the 10mm round....

Fair enough then. Glad you see the error in over generalizing. What we can do on here that is very valuable to the knife community is share our opinions and experiences.

I want to give you an example of how the Military is a great EDC for me. A couple weeks ago my Daughter and I needed to return some library books. So...we made a day of it. Packed a lunch with these big beautiful wraps to have a pick nick before we returned our books and perused to pick out some more. Got all packed up, made the 1.5 mile walk to the library, set up for lunch outside the library, and guess what...I forgot to cut those big old wraps in half at home! Good thing I had my Military with it's massive 4" blade and huge overall length (but very lite I might add). I make big wraps. My Zancudo would have cried at the site of these things. When doing impromptu food prep it can be nice to have a large blade for cutting cleanly through large things. You wouldn't have my daughter eating a poorly mangled wrap now would you?

Okay, I'm kidding a bit here but the story is true! My main point is you can't over generalize based on your own opinion. We all do it but it is good to get reminded every once in a while. To each their own. I don't know, maybe you like your wraps torn apart by a 1.5" utility knife. And that is fine. BTW, the glock is always with me where legal. Even when carrying a 4" folder on a pick nick or a 7" Bravo II in the forest...

Thanks for the reply's, cool suggestions.

Someone mentioned that the Glock 29 is a defensive auto loader only. Well kind of, I also will be putting a 6 inch barrel in it for hunting.

Nothing wrong with that. I've had a few Glocks, but have never hunted with one. Yes, they can be shot accurately at a reasonable distance; I've done a few Glock-shoots in several states. However, for hunting, I'd rather use a revolver.
Glocks were invented/designed as a defensive autoloader...as a military hand weapon. That's pretty obvious.
Of course, you can use a Glock for other things. It makes a pretty decent paper-weight if unloaded first. Of course, your secretary might complain...

I run a Halo 5 with my Compact INOX 92.
NOW For A glock, how about a set of polymer nail clippers. Nothing wrong with a glock, my woman has one. Just like I say, everyone can't drive a 5 speed.

no MAAM

Yes MAAM

I carry around my ColdSteel Recon 1 Tanto Serrated, I use it all the time for every day things, in fact I just got a few packages today that I picked up and just cut open right away! They are a folder but great quality...of course you may not want serrated unless your more in the cutting rope area. they also make different styles like the spear blade etc.

I love the luv, all joking aside let us know what you decide. I had to add some photos to my above post, enjoy.

Oh and for the hunting thing, better off getting a G20. You can't put a 6" on a compact. Lugs will not fit. Even if they did, it would throw off the timing on the slide.

OUCH! Although we are getting off-subject...I think?
:)

Check out Emerson knives for sure.
They're well built, awesome quality, and would be good for EDC as well as hard use. I think they'd be a great knife for hunting.

Some to look at:
Emerson CQC-7
Emerson CQC-13
Emerson CQC-10
Emerson Commander

and many more.

Those wraps look good man...... Why, I'm glad I wasn't there! My 3 inch knife would have ..... well, pretty much done the same as your 4 inch military! But, you know, without being a 10 inch pocket sword :p

I'm just messing with you man. We all carry what we like. And good thing, or this community would be pretty boring. I think it should be a Bladeforums Commandment or something.
"Thou shalt respect thy neighbor's EDC"

Those wraps do look good though...:D

Well, jeepster, could you give us a price range? I think it might narrow down your options.

I'll agree the spydercos are good suggestions, but I would stay far away from the SOG. In my experience, they're just not long lasting, dependable tools.

Can you carry an automatic? (I assume you can since you'll be carrying your glock). Nothing's easier than pressing a button if you get caught in a tight defensive scenario.

However, it sounds like you want something that's useful for general utility as well. Give us a price range, because I'm sure we call all make TONS of suggestions with your current criteria.

For those who don't know, the G29 is a beefy and powerful handgun (not to mention pretty unpleasant to fire), a knife to match it should be the same. I think a big, overbuilt folder like a ZT or Emerson fits best. Maybe something like a Blackwash 0566? The black frame and G10 would complement the Tennifer nicely.

Turd flinging aside, I found the G29 to be fairly comfortable to shoot. I mean it obviously has a substantial amount more recoil than the 9mm or 45 acp. It's recoil is about the same as my 6in 44mag when shooting the hotter 10mm loads. I never understood the recoil aversion that the gun community is on right now. Heck I hear people having trouble with the 5.56...

Good knife ideas though!

Not true about carrying a automatic knife. I state that I used to live in allowed me to carry my pistol but banned automatic knives period.

It is a bit annoying when they dan't give a price range of what they are willing to spend.

I've come across this as well... Absolutely ridiculous!
I like to hand those people my 336 in .30-30 as a comparison for them.

That said, I think a BM 940 would be a great companion for the Glock. It's got a good size blade (3.5") but isn't super heavy (2.9oz) and is very slim. The blade really lends itself to skinning / cleaning game as well. I filleted a few fish with it once upon a time.
If OP is really concerned about it being aesthetically matching, there is a carbon fiber version, the 940-1, or a black version with a different blade style, the 943.

I still think the PM2 is a great choice. I would describe it as quality. Also, the 94X series sugested above would be fine too. I don't own one because I don't care for the handles but you might like them. The Osborne reverse Tanto blade is amazing though. If you like it and want something beefier, the 810 Contego is great. I have 2!

I'll genererally shoot 100-200 rounds in a outing. No problem with it, does make my full size USP9 feel like a 22. Really helps that the g29 is hand filling (ironically I hated how glocks felt before I held a 29 with a large backstrap, now its the most comfortable to me)

I've heard good things about the 940 but I always forget about it when it comes time that I'm in the market to buy a new knife. Right now I'm debating between a 940 (but I already have a dymonwood Grizzly Creek) and a Paramilitary 2

But I agree that when it comes to carrying something as chunky as the 29, a lighter weight knife is better. I'm not as ounce conscious as Nutnfancy is but I don't like having my belt overly tight just to hold up my pants with all my pocket goodies. But I pocket carry my G29 (yay for big pockets) with my SOCOM Delta, wallet, keys, phone, and flash light fairly comfortably
