EDC under $40 w/liner/axis lock & flipper/stud

You really can't go wrong with most Kershaws in that price range. I also reallylike the Spyderco Tenacious. I traded mine for a skyline(?) several months ago. I should not have.

TooManyQuestions, Also check out Kershawguys blem's. They make great users for cheap. I carry a Kershaw Blackout from time to time, great work knife. I also really like the Kershaw Blur. It's a very nice knife for the money.

My vote is for the Buck Vantage. You could find an Avid in that price range...maaaybe even a Pro for a little more. The Vantage just comes natural to me. Love the feel, the size. The more I handle it, the more I like it. A great EDC.

I like Kershaw, but I don't know the ones you list. The only one I know and own is the Storm (I and II). The Storm I like.

Good luck.

I'll agree, its tough to beat the Kershaws in that price range. I really like the 14C28N scandvic steel they're using and alot of them are made in the USA!

I've got a Skyline and an OD-1, they're my favorite EDC pocket knives at the moment. The OD is more overbuilt (framelock, thicker blade) and the Skyline is really light (liner lock, one sided liner, thinner blade).

For a bigger harder use knife I've had a Benchmade Vex that I liked, I even did some light battoning with it.

Really you can't go wrong with any suggestions in this thread, just depends on what you like!

I've heard about blade play in the Buck Vantage series - have you found this to be true in your experience?

Mines in the Warranty Dept right now for.
Lots of Vertical Play
Broken Pocket clip screw (head broke off)
Flipper ain't super smooth (due to the play).
A commonly forgotten part of these knives is the tip. The spacer in the back touches the tip which dulls it. It's an issue with EVERY Vantage (Pro)
It is one hell of a knife though.

That's a good caveat to keep in mind with the Vantage. I agree.

I made sure I checked mine before I bought them, and they all cleared.

I have one Select, two Avids, and one Pro, and none had this issue present.

But it's still a valid point. Always check just to make sure.

In my humble opinion: If you get a good one, you won't regret it.

Yeah, sounds like a winner.

I'm not sure if that's sarcastic or not :P.
All the problems were due to the blade play, except for the pocket clip screw.
I just got an update from Buck they told me taht they gave me courtesy replacement and I should have it in my hands within 14 days :O

I love my Benchmade Monochrome but have looked hard at the Kershaw Leek, Kershaw Blur and Kershaw Junkyard Dog 2.

Depends on what you need it for. My Monochrome will slice atoms.

+1 for the Kershaw's.., one of my favorite folder manufacturers! Also love my Buck Vantage Select and Avid as well.

toomanyquestions - My girlfriend just bought me a Kershaw Chill.

You could almost buy two for $40 , it is slim , sturdy considering how light it is, it is very lightweight. Flipper , liner-lock , good steel comparable to Aus-8 , G10 scales , phos bronze washers - All in all a great EDC !

Take a look at the Boker Trance and Hyper too.
Great knives!

I have a CRKT BULL that's my EDC for work.
I also have a plain edge spear point M-16 that I like a lot, but it's not work friendly.
bang for the buck, they're good knives.
you might also check the knife counter at Wally World - they have a lot of stock under $40, and will let you try them in hand until you find one you like.
