EDC - What's In Your Pocket(s)??? Part 2

I have 3 of them. A Winkler Combat Axe, a Full sized Sayoc-Winkler (spiked) hawk and a Sayoc-Winkler baby (no spike) hawk.

WOW. I'll take the full sized R&D on the left. Any reason you went for the wood over micarta? I'd have thought the micarta would be more durable.

Sorry for getting off topic.

Chris.

The curly maple used on the handles is actually very sturdy, it does get bang up a bit, but I think it ads character. I really, went whit the wood because i love how it looks.
The full sized hawk came whit a texture finish on the wood that makes it extra gripy. I may get a rubber handled one letter on since I do get to work in some pretty wet places from time to time. The recycled rubber handles Winkler uses are in my opinion better than the miacarta.

Ed, what are the benefits of carrying around a 'hawk everyday? On top of a rifle, pistol and knife it seems a bit unwieldy and unnecessary. I hope this doesn't come off wrong; I'm not trying to be a jerk. I am genuinely curious and am sure you don't just lug that thing around for the fun of it. Please share.

I have use my knife in defensive situation before. But recently I used my tomahawk in a life and death situation during a raid on a safe house in the southern part of the country. We were tipped off about suspicions activities going on in a large house in a upper class neighborhood, the report said that several men whit military uniforms and riffles were going in and out of the house during the night.

We set up near the house and got the go ahead to enter the house after we got some much needed back up by the Mexican military, once inside most of the almost 11 armed narcos gave themselves up whit out a struggle. We went ahead and cleared the entire house, when we heard one of our guys screaming over the radio for back up. One of the bad guys was hiding in one of the balconies and tried to wrestle the shotgun away from my team mate.

When I arrived to help out, I realized that my friend was struggling to pull out his hand gun from his leg holster, and I pull out my tomahawk and hit the bad guy in the shoulder (he was wearing body armor) the spike on my hawk went right trough the Kevlar and cut his shoulder badly, he immediately stopped fighting and had to be sent to the hospital for stitches. I would have shot him but felt that I might have hit my friend in the struggle. The bastard will live. My friend was alright, but a bit shaken from the whole ordeal. Turns out his leg holster was new and he hadn’t gotten used to it yet. Almost cost him his life. I took these pictures of the vest the idiot was wearing whit my cell phone.

P.S. I was aiming for his head.

well, my edc seems to be pretty simple... since i'm now retired it goes like this...

rt. rear pocket; retired police id case with badge, an aluminum pocket comb

coin pocket: '08 sak alox soldier and sometimes companioned with a buck 371 stockman

rt. front pocket: an original "taxi" wallet containing drivers lic., ins. cards, bank debit card. also in same pocket i carry a nebo aa flashlight and a regular bic lighter.

keyring consists of a brass swivel eye bolt connected with a med. split ring holding 3 house related keys, a photon 2 light, fox mini 40 whistle and a county comm phillips screw key attached to a small split ring connected to the med. one and finally... my car key attached to a med. s-biner.

used to also edc a glock model 23 but cannot anymore due to a physical disability which prevents me from re-qualifying as required under fedral law as it relates to carry of a concealed firearm by retired law enforcement persons.

as for a edc watch, i wear a cascio g-shock solar powered.
