EDC - What's in Your Pocket(s)??

I'm carrying my usual Fisher Space Pen in a mission wallet with a leatherman micra. Attached to the micra is a white photon II. I have an ARC AAA flashlight around my neck, blue PE Delica in, leatherman juice and a comtech stinger in my back pocket.

I'm partial to roller pens.

Please tell me more....

are there any roller pens that do not smudge or run if water gets on the writing?

Can a roller pen get the differentiating strokes as on a nibbed pen?

Are there any pants pocket sized roller pens -
similar in size/shape as the Fisher "Space Pen"?

Thanks

Two years ago a friend gave me a Sensa pen. Now I carry the Sensa at work and either a Fisher Bullet or Telescoping pen when I'm not at work. Also in my pockets today are,
Emerson CQC7B
Wenger Esquire
Chap stick (windy lately)
keyring w/3 keys and an Arc AAA
Jansport wallet that only cost $10 but has lasted for 2 years and is still like new.
Nextel i90 phone. I hate cell phones and wouldn't carry it but my boss has a different point of view.

Hate to admit it, but the smallest knives I own are carried the most, including right now

BM Osborne axis folder
CRK Mnandi

Very PC and look like the clip of a pen is in your pocket.

I carry two gerbers, a ez-out and a Air ranger, swiss-tech utili-key, freestyle night vision watch, schrade tough chip mini tool, red led light, handcuff key, and papers.
Here's pictures of some of the stuff.

I also carry a silver pilot paint pen, for a certain type of writing.

Well, I like rollers because they're so smooth. However, they will smudge if the ink gets wet and, no, unfortunately, you can't get differentiated strokes like a nibbed pen.

Of course, I tend to use cheaper roller pens (I'm partial to Parkers) because loss/theft is always a possibility. Perhaps the more expensive models come closer to the performance of a fountain pen.

Thanks for the input -

I have Parker roller pens - initially they had very wet inks - which tended to smudge easily - if one dragged the writing hand through it.

The earlier refills also seemed dry out very quickly - so if one left a pen unused fror a few months the pen might not write again......

The ones I had wrote a tad wider - so could look like nibbed writing if one used varying pressure - but with my writing:o - it simply looked uneven:o

I like the Uni-Ball Deluxe Micro in the dark metallic charcoal grey barrel and cap.

I use rollers for "finer" writing at home - like checks and letters - but for general usage, when I'm out, I prefer a regular ballpoint pen for their convenience.

In fact, come to think of it, I do carry/EDC a very slim and short stainless steel retractable ballpoint pen (made in Japan) - it fits clipped to the inside of my tri-fold wallet - I'll post a photo later of it.

Since some of my stuff was stolen, here's what I have now:
-2 High Mix Seb
-SAK Tinker
-Ladybug2
-Luminox 3001
-Infinity Rayskin Bifold

The pen is by Zebra, made in Japan. I bought both the stainless steel ballppoint pen and the mechanical pencil years ago while visiting Hong Kong -

These are about 4" long - clipped to the inside of my tri-fold wallet the pen fits neatly in one of the folds.

Here's a photo for size comparison - the Fisher Bullet Space pens are cool - I love the way they are 3.6" closed but when uncapped and the cap placed on the other end it becomes regular length for use.

The other pens for comparison are some of my favorits - but non-carry - the Uni-Ball Deluxe Micro 0.2mm - these have just the right amount of friction/resistance in writing that I feel I can control (too smooth sometimes just does not give control) - the fancy one is a Parker "Sonnet" lacquered rollerball.

There a current thread on pens in Gadgets & Gear:

Favorite Pen?

Since the thread touched on EDC Pens - here's a relevant thought.....

My understanding is the "Pen Knife" was used to sharpen Pens -
that's obviously Quill/feather pens. So small spearpoint looking blades are normally called "Pen" blades, and knives that are small compact fitting easily in pants pockets are called "Pen Knives" - for example the Victorinox Pocket Pal and its very attractive silver Alox handle version the Secretary:

would probably be considered "Pen Knives".

However there were Pen "Knives" - that were literally knives that were disguised (thinly) as Pens.

I think these were somewhat frowned upon - since they seemed like covert/subterfuge/concealed weapons, plus most that I saw were pretty shoddily made.

I would have thought a Pen "Knife" would be a great EDC for anyone having to wear business attire - as it would just be another "pen" clipped to the pocket?

Anyone know of reasonably good quality knives dressed up as Pens?

Even though it's not a pen, the Delta Z 360* folder clips and carries just like a fatter pen. I have clipped mine on my right front pocket and no one has ever taken notice.

though I travel a lot lighter than most of you guys...

- Wallet
- Keys
- Strider Buck SB1 or Spyderco Military PE
- Leatherman Supertool
- Nokia 6250 (submersible to 2 feet)
- Brunton Helios lighter
- Samson tobacco (the best!)

Broke my flashlight, now looking for a unbreakable, submersible LED replacement, than I'll be set again :) .

Probably your 2 current choices using common batteries are -
the single AA white LED CMG Ultra-G - the US Government issue version.

Or the single AAA LED ArcAAA.

Although the CMG Ultra-G is bigger than the very popular ArcAAA in size - as most carrying pocket knife knuts know - about 3.25" length and 3/4" diameter is actually a better in pants pocket carry and still fits and be comfortable in the hand in use.

For ultimate convenience and an "almost not there" EDC carry on the keyring either the Photon or Inova Microlights in white LEDs are still marvels.

But I do have a preference for the very long running (120 hours spec'd battery life) Yellow LED Photon 2 - as it seems not to glare/dazzle as a white light and is kind to my eyes' dark adaption, doesn't attract that much attention in a dark environment, and I appear to see well with good definition and contrast under yellow.

I actually carry 2 lighhts the CMG Ultra-G in pocket and the Yellow Photon on keyring........

Frank,
What strap is that on your SS Navigator?

Hi, Gene.

The strap is one of the Jürgen's leather pilot's straps, 20mm size. They're open end straps, designed for fixed bar [as opposed to the typical removable spring bars] military watches, like my Marathon.

You can find them here at broadarrow.net. It says on the site that the 19mm strap is a perfect fit, but don't believe it. I bought, and returned, the 19mm strap because of the gap between the strap and lugs. The strap is kept on by a two part screw device, which is the silver buttony looking thing on the strap. Very good quality, about 3mm thick but not too stiff, real solid. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one if I had need to.

well not exactly in "pocket". :)

1. Strider Buck SB1 SP in a belt pouch
2. Leatherman Wave in business bag
3. Motorola LF2000www cell phone
4. keys
5. Wallet (in pocket)

I load up my pants pockets each morning with my CRKT Grey Ghost Mirage wharncliff or my El-Cheapo(c) brand LCC D/A knockoff, depening on the pants and neighborhoods I expect to be in. My two-piece lock pick set (I don't carry keys), my blue Photon 3, a Bic lighter, a couple of plastic toothpicks, my albuterol inhaler, and rather often an OzBlades Asp, usually the Wharncliff.
This is in addition to whatever meager funds I have for the day, one identification card and one credit/debit card.
My jacket holds quite a bit more than I'm willing to discuss, but it usually goes with me.

.....very interesting -

does this mean you lock/unlock your own stuff/house/car with lock picks?

Is this actually as convenient and quick as the regular key?

Can you pick any lock?

What, if any, are the legalities of this?

Thanks
