Spyderco Caly 3 in Carbon Fiber/ZDP 189. The durn thing just seems to stay sharp forever. :)

Kershaw Skyline
Buck 170U

I often carry 2 folders, one for small tasks and one for hard use (though sometimes there's overlap). The Buck 170U is a knife that's problematic for me--it has some fairly glaring design flaws. In spite of this, you can see that it has had a lot of use--I've worn off a fair amount of anodized aluminum on the handle. In my opinion it has one of the worst designs of any liner lock I own. I've cut myself closing it twice in the past (I've not had this problem with other knives, including even the Tenacious; search youtube for "tenacious cut")--when closing this knife one-handed, the user must be very careful not to close it too fast, as the blade can make contact with one's thumb on the liner lock even when the blade is at a 90 degree angle to the handle. The knife is not particularly easy to deploy because it's hard to get a good grip on it (strange shape). If this knife is dropped 2 feet, the blade will open--the blade retention is kind of weak. The blade is not centered and rubs against the aluminum liner when it is closed (even after attempts to adjust it to fix both of these problems). That said, it has a decent edge and I'm able to get it very sharp. I carry knives I do not like as well for my hard use tasks, so that I do not damage the knives I like better. The Buck 170U is a solid example of one of my hard use knives.

Why on earth would you carry a knife that has all these problems? It's like saying you're carrying a gun that goes off randomly, and that doesn't fire when the trigger is pulled.

Just got this little beauty from Alan Davis in the knife makers forum:thumbup: It's 4 7/8 overall with a 2 3/16 blade, red stag handles with blue g-10 liners. Gorgeous leather sheath which allows for ez pocket or neck carry:)

I'm gonna have to figure a way to carry this one... Looks like a pancake sheath will be the only way to carry this 14oz monster!

Life in the fast lane! Seriously though, I like my nicer knives too much to abuse them that way. I don't care if I chip the blade on this knife.

I think part of it is that I just like to use things until they wear out. It's not that the knife doesn't work, it's just that if I one hand close it I might get cut. =/

After reading the responses here though, I think I'll stop using it--there are plenty of inexpensive knives I love that I could abuse without much impact on my conscience.
