EDC with a non folder?

I'm sure there are many like myself, that work in environment that does not lend well to an exposed knife (sheathed of course). I work in a technical/educational/office setting and I carry a multi-tool on my belt and a folder in my pocket, daily.

People's eyes light up when I pull out my folder as needed, I can only imagine the reaction to a knife handle sticking out. Any suggestions on EDC with a non folding knife in this situation? Moderate to full concealment would be my first thought. Or should I stick with a folder in my pocket?

BTW the knife in question is the BK11 @ 6 3/4" ;)

I carry a fixed all the time. In some situations, like yours, you could carry a fixed, in pocket, on the belt, etc.. but would you pull it out in front of all your co-workers? The BK-11 and 14 are pretty flat, and can be concealed on the belt very well, use some paracord to make the loops.

Sure, it could be there for emergencies, but will you really pull that knife out at work? That's a big factor as to carry it or not.
A remora is smaller, lighter, and so are the mini's from Bark River, IMP, bumblebee, PSK, etc..

I carry my Bark River PSK, a Case canoe, and usually another larger fixed blade, when I can. Depending on the sheeple, I usually don't whip out the larger fixed blade, which is never more than 3"-4" in public places.

I agree, the BK11 is great and if you get with someone and have a smaller kydex sleeve made, it will fit nicely in the pocket.

It's rare I even use a knife at work. It see's more time cutting my lunch than anything else. I always follow "better to have and not need..."

Maybe the BK11 will just live in my EDC pack for when I need it.

I wear dress clothes daily - shirt and tie mostly. The best way to conceal a fixed blade is around the neck. I switch off between a BK11 Becker Necker and a BHK small Tiger Knapp. The Tiger Knapp is a smaller knife, which hides better. The BK11 is about as large as I can easily conceal, but is solid enough to dress and skin a deer.

These will print a little under a polo, but are invisible with a dress shirt and tie. Once you get the length right, it is very easy to hide and draw a knife from under your shirt. If your work requires you to wear an ID badge anyway, people are already used to seeing things around your neck.

That Tiger Knapp is about as flat as a knife can get, no handle scales. Would hide under or inside a tie, well almost inside.

That's an idea, the Knife Tie sheath. A titanium knife with a carbide edge, and a tie that hides a bit of plastic or kydex inside. Wear a tie clip, and it will stay in one place!

I carry a Pocket Kilo from Fletcher Knives every day. I just carry it in my left-rear pocket. Honestly I would do the same with a BK-11 if I had one.

Another nice small knife for neck carry is the Johnson Adventure - Piggy Back.

I know its an "international" brand, but it has a sweet shape (albeit small). $9.99 at Tomars - How can you beat that?

I carry my BK14 daily. It rides between my belt and waistband at 3 o'clock. The sheath sits so high that only an inch or so of it is visible under my belt. My T-Shirt covers the handle.

I keep my bk14 in my right front pocket. I had to put my keys somewhere else so I got a maxpedition keyper. The handle doesn't stick out, but it did flop around until I added cohesive tape.

This is what I do.

Paracord loop from the top hole of the Eskabar sheath attached to belt. It's not much more noticeable than a clipped folder. I carry like this every day with no problems, and I do spend most of my weekdays on a college campus.

My EDC. My BK14, I work in corporate America, education, DOD, DOE, HLS, FBI, Federal Buildings. No one notices, no one cares. Outta sight, outta mind. There's even a way to do this sheath, with the loops at the bottom, so you can tuck a shirt in over it. HA, beat that. Oh, I know I'm a fatass, that's why they call me Moose.

It's not a BK, but you might want to look at what Ray Kirk has to offer. I have one of his Mini Medicine Blades. It's small overall, but big enough for most jobs. Mine has giraffe bone handle and a damascus blade, so it looks more fancy than threatening. And if anyone does act surprised when you take it out, you can tell them it was made by a native American of the Cherokee nation and it has been blessed. It comes with a nice leather pocket sheath. Throw it in a back pocket and forget about it. It completely disappears. It has become one of my favorite knives.

I like that idea moose.

When I purchased my ESEE Izzy II, I also purchased the Maxped keeper.

This is all they'll see, and most will think it's just some keys.....

I carry a BK11 around my neck and its not bad. If it were any bigger though I'd be in trouble. I was thinking about making it attach to my undergarmets or something though so it doesn't move around as much. it's a work in progress.

Um, we'll be needing pics of that. Um, er, for engineering critique, and whatnot. :D
