EDC with a non folder?

This is what I do.

Paracord loop from the top hole of the Eskabar sheath attached to belt. It's not much more noticeable than a clipped folder. I carry like this every day with no problems, and I do spend most of my weekdays on a college campus.

That's what I do only the setup is a little different. Carabiner to the belt loop and the cord coming out of two top holes so that the sheath dangles straight up and down with the knife absent. I have it so I can sheath and resheath one handed. Oh and it's a Gossman UNK.

The BK11/14 are good sizes for pocket carry, but is there a good way to draw the knife without drawing the sheath? From my limited fooling around, it seems you either have to get a hand in there to disengage the sheath with your thumb, or draw the knife sheath and all and remove by holding the sheath in the off hand.

I like to pocket carry a pistol, and it took a while before I had a setup that allowed a good grip, clean draw and retain the holster in the pocket.

Ultimately what you do affects whether or not to carry almost as much as where you are. As a for instance, if I was an accountant, I would have a lot less reason to carry a knife, fixed or otherwise, than I would as say an IT person. So, while I work all day as an IT guy, people almost expect me to have an assortment of tools, and since my pocket knife is also a multitool (Leatherman Skeletool CX) I can usually whip it out to cut something without even a raised eyebrow. Moose, if I remember correctly you are in the same field, and honestly, of everyone else in the same field I know, it is almost unheard of to not have a plethora of tools hanging off of us at all times. Hence the knife getting by.

On the other hand though, our boss is probably the most paranoid person I have ever met, so I would never pull out the big pocket knife (Pohl Force Alpha Two) unless there was a serious need, and even then, there is a good chance I would lose my job just because she would over react. In the last 3+ years, only one person has ever said anything, and they were so hardcore anti-anything with a blade that I could have pulled out a plastic wendy's butterknife and heard an earful. Thankfully that person has never mentioned it since then, and I am not around them very much at all.

Previously, if the question was ever raised of why I was carrying a "weapon", I would challenge them in defining a weapon vs. tool. I wouldn't do this around my boss of course, but most back off and leave it be. I've always carried a knife, I don't go waving it around or drawing attention to it of course so that helps it be a non issue.

If you are limiting yourself to a folder or a fixed knife with a 6+ inch blade, stick with the folder.

Personally I feel that fixed blades are a far better option IF you can find a maker who understands that the carry system is as important as the knife itself. I have plenty of very nice knives that will forever be "play blades" and a small handful of decent knives that will forever be "carry blades" due to the various systems provided by their makers. In general I think a Bud Nealy knife is the optimal concealed carry tool/weapon due to the MCS II system, which he will gladly make for any knife if you mail him your blade. The going cost, last I checked, was about $60 to build a concealed carry system for a modest sized fixed blade.

Your other option is something like the mercharness, which is designed so you can carry larger fixed blades without drawing much, if any, attention to yourself. When you pull it out to open a box or slice a tomato, however, the reaction is probably going to be a bit adverse in an office environment.

uh huh..... I am gonna have to pass haha

You sure?
we could give some...professional advice...yeah...
in reply to the OP, if you're wearing a pair of boots you can stick it in there, and several excellent pocket sheaths have already been shown off.
Neck carry works, as does IWB. Also, if you wear a jacket the sheath could be mounted inside a pocket.

wear ladies undergarments for several years and I'll consider it professional.

Yeah, but you just wear them. Hands-on/in experience is what matters.

Take note of how this girl doesn't mind showing her conceal carry methods. I can respect that....and all her lovely attributes.

Personally, my pockets in my ACU uniform allow for me to get my thumb in, not problem, however with jeans, I imagine it would be more difficult. You could try using a bike intertube around the sheath to create friction in your pocket, much like a pocket holster. I carry a .357 2" Taurus J frame in my backpocket back home and even with the "tac-hide" outer layer, it took me a while to learn to draw only my pistol. Also, if you were very serious about carrying the BK11 in your front pocket, you could creat some sort of loop/hook system by sewing something to the inside corner of your pocket, and creating a loop on the sheath to attack it with... but thats just too much work for me! Using my thumb is easy enough. My Fallkniven S1 on my belt is my choice for fast draw! ( at least until my BK2 comes in!)

I prefer fixed blades to folders for many uses, I've only recently found a folder I trust to take some of my abuses. I have carried a RAT HEST inside belt and inside waist band on several occasions over the last year and a half, and now a BK-11 in a slim after market kydex sheaths rides around my neck a lot of the time. Growing up during the cold war, and being a son of preppers, I followed the "rather have it and not need it than..." philosophy at an early age. I had a small fixed blade (ones i had modded and made sheaths for) on my person through out middle and high school. Never pulled them out on school property, but I never walked straight home so I liked having them on me.

I'm sure there are many like myself, that work in environment that does not lend well to an exposed knife (sheathed of course). I work in a technical/educational/office setting and I carry a multi-tool on my belt and a folder in my pocket, daily.

People's eyes light up when I pull out my folder as needed, I can only imagine the reaction to a knife handle sticking out. Any suggestions on EDC with a non folding knife in this situation? Moderate to full concealment would be my first thought. Or should I stick with a folder in my pocket?

BTW the knife in question is the BK11 @ 6 3/4" ;)

Myself, I like the looks I get when the "sheeple" hear that loud click of my Vantage Pro locking up. (LOL)

I keep my BK 14 or Izula II in my front pocket with a shirt out over the handle, if I'm carrying a small fixed. No problems.

i carry an izzy 1 on my belt horizontal on my right hip. i'm fat though so my shirts tend to cover it.

In CA, fixed blades are a no go. However, to make me feel more comfortable since I have almost exclusively started carrying traditional slipjoints as EDC, I started toting a TDI LDK in the small change pocket of my jeans. It isn't used for anything other than assuring me that I have a knife that I can deploy more quickly than the Canoe that rides in my pocket. Even then, I usually only pack it if I am working late or in an otherwise dodgey area. The BK11 stays in the car. Even if I could carry a "real" fixed blade knife either open or concealed, I doubt I would.

Thats kinda how I think too. I don't draw attention to it when I'm at work.

I've seen that video, it's very informative. She is braver than me.

How do you live like that?

This precisely why I LOVE Kentucky! Not only is open carry of firearms and knifes legal, in the part of the state I'm from, its encouraged!

Same here. (Southern VA) If you DON'T have a sidearm and a knife on your belt, you stick out. (lol)

Not quite that bad, :D but it is just accepted as a life style here. FREAKIN' AWSOME !

Not desiring to be photographed in your undies aside, I doubt she's braver than you. As far as I've seen, she has never shown her face. I believe you have. I say it takes more cajones to reveal your face on the web, than anonymously showing the majority of your legs. Not that I blame her, stalker central if she did.
