I've been trying heat-coloring titanium myself. It's fun and results vary.

On small parts I heat anodize them by holding them over the burner of the gas stove.. obviously with pliers.
For the scales I use the old 9 volt battery trick.

I got back from a meeting with an HVAC contractor at my client's recently purchased second home and headed outside after lunch to bring in a couple days worth of firewood as there's a substantial storm moving in up the coast. I've got the Inskosi drop-point with me today for Natural Micarta Monday and managed a couple pics just as the first few drops began to fall.
