EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

It's been another one of those back and forth days as I was planning to carry the Voron for Ti Tuesday, but ended up with the Swiss Border Guard again as I heard back from Klotzli about the screws and wanted to both stay on topic and let Mako109 Mako109 and @Barman1 know that Nina wrote to say the clip screws were 1/72 spline heads. I couldn't find any such number searching the net, but did find 0.072" spline heads, also known as Bristol screws for their original maker, so I wrote her back with what I found asking for clarification. Under magnification their tiny recesses do kinda look like this...

...as far as these old eyes can see.

Later, after PMing with a friend here about a source for Cheburkov knives, I ended up pulling the trigger on something that has been sort of a Grail for me these last couple years, so I ended up carrying the Voron for the latter part of the day anyway and have both with me now--one in pocket and the other in its slip.

Beautiful knives and beautiful shots, as always!

Any chance you’ll give us a little teaser regarding the Cheburkov you’ve got on the way? You know you got my attention with that, right? I’m gonna be almost as excited for it to arrive as you.

Actually, I’m not sure I really want to know....maybe I’ll just wait and let the suspense build. But a little hint probably wouldn’t hurt, would it? Maybe something along the lines of “the model rhymes with.....”.

Lol, but seriously...I’m excited for ya’. Looking forward to some great shots once it arrives!

If it’s a Kori I’m gonna be super jealous and stoked! I should bought the one at Blade 2019 from him. It was awesome. I did the smart thing and walked away...right? :/

I love incoming knives...and even more when they arrive. :) Can’t wait to see what you have chosen.

Which Chaves is that? I’m not real familiar with them but they are one I’ve looked at here and there, searched around a little

The numbers given (1/72) are most likely the Major thread diameter in American Wire Gauge size (#1) which is 0.073" in diameter plus the number of threads per inch (TPI) 72=National Fine thread standard (Coarse is 64TPI).
The Bristol key size required can vary with the head style (flat head, pan head, fillister head, etc.) I have a set of Bristol keys. If you send me a screw, I can identify the tool size and return the screw. Bristol screws are often used in lab instruments.

What kind of work and what brand of audio gear?

I love testing out old audio gear.

In that I'm living at home, still struggling to get healthy, my audio equipment is here, there, and everywhere. The speakers are my old KLH 3 speaker towers, about 20 years old. They are incredible. Maybe I'll buy a used receiver for them. It's a bit much for a bedroom though.

Mail call! Haven't bought a new BM in some time and while it needs a sharpening out the box and the centering isn't quite perfect  it is a sweet blade overall and a big improvement in materials over the original Freek. I don’t expect much from a factory edge anyhow and a trip to the stones should bring it up nicely along with a little pivot tweak.

ChazzyP ChazzyP thank you very much for following up with that information. Never heard of a spline head before; eek gads it's awful looking. There ought to be a law against using those :p

I’ve been swapping out audio gear lately myself.

In the last three months or so, I have tested at least four sets of speakers and a couple of amps.

Thanks for that info and the offer. Looking back at @Barman1 's earlier post about the clip screws, he mentioned that they were 1/72's which I took to be the thread size when I read that, but didn't put that together reading the email from Klotzli as I was really only interested in the bit size.

It'd be nice to know the bit size both for myself and other owners, though it's unlikely I'd have cause to remove the clip. Hopefully, I'll get further clarification from Klotzli and a proper size as I'm reluctant to use an improperly fitting bit just to find the right one.

Since #1X72TPI screws are a US size, you can get them all over the place and with more common recesses (TORX, Phillips, Allen, slotted, etc.) The Bristol keys are very precise. It might be hard to use the wrong size. The Chapman Tool Co. makes/made 1/4” hex drive Bristol bits, and they sell/sold them individually.

I saw the Chapman Tool sets and singles and also found another supplier--McMaster-Carr--that sells singles with knurled ends that only fit their ratcheting driver, a 6 bit set with their driver, and L-keys in a multitude of Bristol sizes, both 4 and 6 flutes singly and in sets. I hope to get the proper sizing info from Klotzli.
