I've been rethinking my waved knives over the past month or so, breaking them down into subgroups and considering what characteristics I favor over others. I try not to hold anything sacred when it comes to my collection; if it doesn't suit my needs (fickle though I may be!), it's almost certainly getting sold. After years of enjoying my Emersons (including a year where I carried a Mini CQC-7BW and essentially nothing else), I'm even considering selling one or two.

A lot of that comes down to moving away from liner locks in general, particularly titanium liner locks...and especially for knives that are made to be waved open. That's brought me full-circle on the Cold Steel AK-47 -- and between the last time I owned one and now, there's been a welcome update to this model! The pants-shredding coarse texture on the G10 has been replaced with a texture much more akin to a PM2 or Manix 2. Perfect!

The sharpening choil is still an affront to decency, but I'm willing to overlook it.

Here's an old photo of my previous AK-47 that shows the texture difference pretty well. (The branding has also shifted from ™ to ®, although my example still has the pre-GSM logo.)

Ok, so I’ll apologize up front for the array of pics....but I’ve been pretty good keeping things to a minimum lately, so I’m hoping I’ve banked a little leeway.

Anyway, my idea was to kind of “document” my journeys today with photos from various stops throughout a typical Monday. As it turned out, however, I never even left my neighborhood.....and the scenery never really provides any interesting backdrops anyway, so I scrapped that idea.

The one thing that did keep changing today was the weather, so my theme here is “Micarta Monday: Sunshine and Afternoon Showers to an Overcast Sunset Walk with the Dogs”.

Yeah, I know....but the whole thing sounded a lot better in my head. And at this point I’m pretty well committed to seeing it through, so I might as well go all-in and finish with the pics. Maybe, just maybe, this long-winded backstory will lend some context and bring this wonky-ass post full circle.

I went small for M390 Monday, carrying my Mini Ritter as I headed over to our second floor gym this morning. The coarse G10 Wilkins scales slip into jeans just fine with the stock BMK spring clip, but into a T-shirt, well, not so much, so I've just had it loose in my sweatshirt pocket all day. This one doesn't get much carry as I generally prefer its matching big brother, but handling and using it a couple times today I've come to realize I can get an all-but full four-finger grip on this little guy.
