EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

What's hapnin Blade f(r)iends! Posting for yesterday, as it was a bit of a long one. I took a little walk in the woods up to an Alpine Lake, and then to the peaks above. This was my 3rd time hiking up to this spot this year, but its one of my favorites nearby, so I decided to get out there one more time this year. The highest elevation was about 5,600ft, and all in all I figure I walked a good 14 miles or more, which explains my condition when I got home. I carried the Jurassic, Vic Climber, SE Dragonfly, and LT Wright fixed blade on my person; and a BM Bushcrafter in the pack.

I've posted about this place before, and what makes it a favorite is that there's an old trail (boot path) that is off the main trail that offers a much better experience than the regular trail. It has varied terrain including a nice boulder field you have to climb, and is relatively unknown so you almost always get it completely to yourself. However this section of trail is VERY steep, and under the best conditions fairly difficult, though rewarding. Furthermore, we are not in the best conditions. We've had plenty of rain in the past couple of weeks, and I knew that this path we be rather challenging in these conditions, if not impossible forcing me to turn around.

Anyhow, because of those conditions, I set off fully expecting to take the the regular, well-maintained, normal reasonable person trail. I promise. The wifey even forbade me to take the other, and I told her I wouldn't. The eye roll that followed, however, proved that perhaps she knows me better than I know myself. By the time I arrived at the trailhead I was already having an internal debate. By the time I reached the turnoff for the boot path I was about 50/50. Then, right at the entrance I saw this.

I took it as a sign. Had to be, right? So on I go up the old ridge trail. It was about as expected, but by no means impossible. The first part has an extreme incline and muddy ground that was tricking with water. I manage my way up though, grasping at roots and trees, and only slipping a few times. Then, after I finally make it past that part, on to the boulder field. Luckily the rocks were not slick with ice.

I made my way up through that, and from there it's not far from the lake. I arrived at the lake just as the sun was peeking above the mountain above. It was gusting wind, and still icy cold.

Now, the easy part was done, time to hike up to the peak above. There' are two choices here; the longer, more difficult, more rewarding, slightly higher elevation hike that I've done twice this year; and the other one which is still amazing and I haven't done since last year. My initial plan was to do the latter, but, in the spirit of the day I chose...

Both! 🤪

Here's the view from the highest point, except in real life it expands 360 degrees. Well worth the effort. If you look to the far right of the picture, you can see the lake which lies at around 4300ft on its own, and behind is the other peak.

Now it's time to head back down. When I arrive at the lake, I have two choices. I can take the main trail down, or I can choose yet another really cool boot path that follows the creek and waterfalls down. The problem there is that, with all the recent rain, the creek might be impassable, in which case I would have no choice but to backtrack up to the main trail. Which to choose? ;)
