EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

Better, more artsy pic of the Sebenza that has jumped into my pocket and won't leave.

Chazzy, this has to be my favorite looking model from Rick. Everytime you post it I think “I’ve gotta try one of those out!”
I don't think you'd be disappointed, S&F. I had bought the Emerson-designed ZT0640 as a lot of guys were posting theirs, I'd never had an Emerson nor a thumb-disc knife, and I thought it'd be kinda cool. I went all in with aftermarket mods too--anodizing, Micarta scales, MXG clip (boy, did the original suck), and Monster disc. For me, the knife was ok, but really kinda meh--no offense to anyone who's really taken with that model.

Anyway, I saw my Firetac on the Exchange and thought it was everything I wanted that now-departed ZT to be, and boy was I right. I've got a bunch of RHKs and each one has its own special significance or appeal to me, but the older, thick-bladed models I've kept aren't still with me for their cutting ability, save for my XM24 REK re-grind. I've really fallen for my two XM18 Skinny's--No Choil Slicer and Sheepsfoot--but the Firetac has definitely risen to the top of the class. Of course it's got some nice mods too with its distressed clip, oversize thumb-disc, canvas Micarta scale, and a nice mix of blackened and brass hardware here and there. I really like Rick's Battle Black finish on both the blade and handle slabs. It's a great EDC size, a very decent cutter with its nicely ground CPM20CV blade, has awesomely smooth almost drop-shut action, and is solid in hand while slim and light in pocket. Yeah, it does seem that I like it and think you probably would too.

OK, back on topic and more to the point, today was Ti Tuesday with a favorite work knife, my Plain Jane SHF in S35VN as my buddy and I got back to my roof project after a week's layoff.

BTW, not Christmas-themed pics there--they were just shot in the holly bush out front which, along with the adjacent Rhody, nicely hide our 500 gallon propane tank.

Keyopp!! Over the years I always wanted to try out the Acies, what is your take on it? I believe you have the new updated version? Is it worth the $?
Beautiful photo as always.

Hey S&F, this Acies (version 2) is an interesting knife for sure. Fit, finish and action are absolutely on par with others in the same price range, it’s very well executed. The tall and thin blade with a flat grind is an excellent slicer and I mean how can you go wrong with ZDP-189, it holds its edge forever. Sadly I think they‘ve changed it over to S30V now. The Acies also has some items you won’t find on a Sebenza like an over travel lock bar stop, more effective jimping, deep carry clip and a directional thumb stud thats much more forgiving than the pointy stud on a Sebenza. My only gripe was that the edge of the lockbar (where your thumb contacts when closing) could have been rounded off more, it was a little sharp. A few passes with a small file fixed that issue easily though.

Released originally with the intention to be a “Sebenza killer”, I would say it definitley makes a good run at the claim. Is it better than a Sebenza 21?… no, but very close. Lastly, is it worth the $? This USA made version 2 with the ZDP blade was worth the cost for me, but unfortunately I don’t think I would say the same for its present S30V built version 3.

YMMV

P.S. Congrats on your new sub over in the knifemakers forum.

For anyone looking for some excellent leatherwork and more, I highly suggest you drop by and check out the Sharp & Fiery Leathercraft and Knifeworks sub over in the hosted knifemaker’s forums section.

Thank you for that in-depth review. I would love to find a version 2 Acies with the ZDP. To be honest, the S30V had me second guessing if I would take the plunge and buy new.

Thank you also for the shoutout to my sub. I’m looking forward to the future.

And just cause I ran this thread off topic…I am carrying my Sawby Large Toothpick again today.
