oh new smyrna....I was thinking further south....Cool!...Yea, not far at all. I had a few friends that lived down that way and back in college I took a couple of classes down at the UCF Cocoa campus.
Yessir! Shark bite capital of the world! I may be in the PNW most of the time now, and I certainly have fallen in love with the outdoors here, but at heart I am a New Smyrna Florida boy through and through. I think I'll always hate the cold, and I can't help but chuckle when people on trails out here douse themselves with bug spray and complain about how the mosquitos are "so bad"(little do they know I'm from a place called Mosquito Lagoon for good reason and have been immune since I was 4).
I'm lucky enough to have access to a condo that's been in the family since before I was born and the place was still mostly dunes (just a couple of miles from the park entrance now). I usually get to stay a couple of weeks per year there right on the beach, and I tell ya', it truly feels like it replenishes my soul. I love the whole area too, not just the beach and lagoon, but the swamps and St. Johns River as well, and the woods in between. I was just telling @bigolegator how I even miss the thunderstorms (yea it rains plenty here in the winter, but I like my storms violent violent, and love the cooling of the afternoon afterwards down there). So yea, I'll reiterate that I absolutely do feel blessed to be out here in this wonderland, and I love every minute of it; but down there is where I'm truly in my element.
spent my childhood and young adult times surfing ponce inlet area and nsb.....good ole days.....
