EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

I figured I'd do Micarta for Monday and Made in the USA for Independence Day, and settled on my TrWay Firetac for today's carry. Well, not exactly settled as I friggin' love this one, but found the pivot was pretty loose when I got it out this morning. It seemed a good time to try the BB pivot as the knife came to me off the Exchange from our friend Icky Thump Icky Thump with the PB washers installed and I'd left them in so far as the action was super smooth and wickedly hydraulic.

The change-out was as easy as pie (or is that pi, as everything about the pivot is circular? 😏) and surprisingly, the action isn't really any different--still smooth, not really any quicker, and still pretty hydraulic-feeling for BB's. I didn't add any lube to it, so we'll see how that goes--maybe doing so will change things a bit. What the change-out achieved, though was it allowed me to crank the pivot screw down all the way and keep the action free, so that should allow me to avoid having to LocTite that as I'm no fan of using it on knife threads.

It's apparently also, with apologies to Z Zeroedin , a Many pics Monday....

Happy 4th all! Here's to freedom and independence!

Carrying two knives made in the USA, one Swiss. The vintage Seiko was obviously made in Japan, but a model made famous by a US astronaut. One Drop yo-yo made in Eugene, OR, USA.

Out in the backyard soaking up some nature and sharpening my Mantra 2. I've had this knife sitting since I got it because it came from the last guy very dull and I just haven't had the time to sharpen it. The M4 took a nice edge a lot easier than I was expecting. For the passed 6 months or so I've been only progressing to the 600 grit diamond stone and I've found it works perfectly for me. If I spend much more time refining it more and more I tend to just not sharpen as many knives, plus the 600 grit edge flys through everything I've cut really well.

Having had to drag my lazy ass outta bed way too early this morning and semi-work all day I lost sight of the fact that it was a holiday.

So shamefully, there’s no real theme to my carry today…..but if you look for it, there’s red, white and blue in one of my pics. Kinda wish now that I hadn’t wiped my blood off the knife before taking these. I could’ve gone 3 for 3 in the “theme” category and scored more points. Damn OCD…

Anyway, I hope all those reppin’ the USA are enjoying a wonderful holiday weekend.

600 grit can get a knife very sharp. I have discovered that some steels need a higher grit finish to cut well, which confuses me. I have had some knives get stupid-sharp from my 600 grit stone. Others, not so much. I'm sure there's a bunch of science I don't know about, lol.
