EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

Clearly my initial impression on the deployment was overly premature smh. It’s like my first time buying a knife, why would I not think of breaking it down and cleaning it before ranting about the action on a public forum?!? Lesson learned 😳
Haha no problem at all my friend. I've been there before many times when I see people raving about a knife, get one, and maybe the action feels just a little bit different than I was picturing in my head. I haven't really come across one in a while that doesn't get at least a few times better after I've taken it apart and given it some lovin though. I like to lightly polish my washers on denim with a little metal polish, just maybe 10 swirls each side. I do it to almost all of them and it always impresses me how much of a difference it makes. I'm sure you have your own secret recipe though. Enjoy that iMamba my friend!

When these Kizer Sheepdogs came through in 10v on a sale for 60 something I decided I didn't need it and have been kicking my own butt ever since. Well a few months later I came across one for about the same price and this time wasn't going to let it slip by. I carried it today and so far really like it. I think this is my first cleaver blade, don't usually like them, but the grind on this one is nice and thin and slicey 🤙

I think this Police 4 has changed my life. Still in a honeymoon phase with it, but... wow. I love it so much. Also, that Buck 110 SS up there, that's my first dye-job on a knife, it is only a LITTLE darker than I wanted. Mixed purple and scarlet to get that on tan - I have two tan Spydies - a 10V PM2 and a 20CV Yojimbo 2 that I also want to make a wine/burgundy/blurple. Also want to try on the K390 - probably will do the D-fly first to make sure I have got the color right.

Plus, my cat on my messenger bag admiring my knives.

EDIT: I was just thinking about, how I don't always post my full EDC because I'd just be posting the same stuff over and over again other than knives, I have a much more "normal person" attitude (as opposed to our, you know, Titanium Tuesday, Micarta Monday type ways) to my flashlight, prybar and timepieces as opposed to knives. I have ONE EDC flashlight, the small black J5 Tactical with clip, ONE pepper spray, the beat-up Sabre Red w/ clip, you may have seen, ONE $12 4" curved Widgy steel prybar... and other than a couple more flashlights to put in other places, and maybe one purp/red ano job, I don't nerd out over other gear as much. My thought is like, "This works fine - why bother checking out more?" and there is certainly something to be said about simple and utilitarian - I respect a body who carries the same Opinel for 20 years (as someone recently mentioned). I am tempted to go a little bit to the "man jewelry" route and get myself a pretty, Ti prybar but I would rather learn anodization and make it myself than pay $300 for a Metonboss one. I've been enjoying learning to do things myself as of late.

I thank the good Lord for that, though. My heart goes out to those of you afflicted with such addictions like boating, watches, car collecting.
Just kidding there, obviously if it gives you pleasure and you can afford it, do it.
The Spiderco Police 4 is definitely one of my top choices for when I want something with decent size but still be thin and slicey. I wish more people made more knives with this kind of blade geometry.

Continuing Wharncliffe week/Wharncliffe Wednesday. Yesterday was the Axial Shift, forgottotakeapic. Tomorrow probably A Purvis Progeny. The new scales come for the AD-20.5 come tomorrow so Friday I'll be rockin that.

Lol…Tuesday took it outta me, but after a solid night’s sleep and with the temperatures dropping back into the double-digits I decided to quit my bellyaching, sack up and face Wednesday like an effin’ man!

On a brief aside: my wife and I just finished binge-watching “Yellowstone” last night….so I’m feeling all sorts of cowboy tough right now. Even took these pics with a light drizzle coming down…….and no umbrella.

Yep, cowboy tough.

Anyway, had to go a bit more traditional while tending to my manly ranch chores this afternoon. Unfortunately, I got poked by a nasty little bougainvillea thorn and had to have my wife bandage my ouchie. Plus, the mosquitoes were starting to come out…..so I had to wrap things up before dinner.

I’m still chalkin’ the day up as a Wednesday win. I mean, it’s not like I screamed when the thorn pierced my skin….and Kevin Costner wouldn’t have screamed either.

Like I said, cowboy tough now.

Oh yeah, it's amazing. Luckily, Spyderco is one of my favorites, but I can absolutely see the folks here who are fans of something a bit higher end in a folding knife, Chris Reeve, or something like that, to make a similar blade-shape. I just realized, I have never seen a lot of folding knives with a similar profile. (

I had to be reeled in when I tried to pull my Police 4 on the potatoes and onions last night during dinner... I said it would work just fine, but I was made to go get a fixed blade. Fiance's ruler of kitchen and feels weird using folding knives for food (Esp. after what I think is a piece of blue FRN fell off in the food from my D-Fly one time!).

So I go grab my Benchmade Puukko in minor protest, lol. But that did a pretty good job, too.

That’s a great looking knife!
I know a little about thorns. I had to dig one out of Mike, or was that a slug?
Anyway, he was more like Cowgirl tough.1DD2CDA3-DCCF-4762-BF8F-D2C8BA293330.jpeg

So, I've got a Police 4 and a SAK in my pocket, but I got this beautiful leather bucked Samsonite bag, I think it was originally a laptop bag, with three sectioned-off compartments, the first and last having zippered compartments in the back, and an additional pouch on the back facing the body that can be reached into freely without opening the bag. It's beautiful and I love it.

Right to Left: multicolor pen, can't see, J5 Tactical light (red button), carbon Opinel no. 8, Leatherman Wingman, Green chisel sharpie, two pens, prybar, lighter, Black Talon II

What's in here is a little rough, and subject to change depending on how it carries, but I've happily started to set it up as just a carry-bag of things that I like to or try to carry every day, but sometimes don't - like a flashlight, sometimes I don't carry one because I figure I'll be back earlier than I will, but I could still need to look into dark places. My first, forced-patina, Opinel no. 8 because... when is this little buddy not good to have handy? Leatherman Wingman, because the SAK has stolen my heart and my pocket, but I still like to have the spring-pliers-based tool on me sometimes. Green sharpie, may be changed, couple o' pens with my pocket prybar fitting in with a penholder, a lighter that's a placeholder for my purple zippo! You may also be able to catch the shape of a Cold Steel Black Talon 2 clipped down to the bottom. Got a notebook in the zipper, a book in the middle, maglite and lemon hand-cloth in the compartment facing me. Want to put a first aid kit together. This is a fun project! I wonder when it'll get too heavy.

Hey - I am about to start carrying a very small, 3" fixed blade - like, it'll be the most innocuous and fancy blade on me, in Los Angeles County. They don't like open carry of the fixed blade (CA state does). Anyone know if inside a closed container, like this, would be best?

Thanks man! I’ll have to keep your method in mind — I’ve polished washers on sandpaper, but never thought of using denim. The iMamba has been running great ever since lol.
