First real day back after getting through Ian. Our neighborhood fared well….but our town took a giant sledgehammer to the nuts. Glad to see other Floridians doing well.
Gotta say, I’m also happy to see you guys continued to post in my absence. Sure, it hurts a little, and I’m a bit surprised…but I completely understand. I’m either not as important as I think I am, or you guys did it as an attempt to honor me. I’m gonna go with the latter one here….just because the former seems a bit ridiculous; so thank you.
Lol, anyway…I gotta spin the clock back to Wednesday for a minute. While we were stuck inside riding out the storm I spent a lot of time fiddling with the Nomad Jr.

Headed up to a couple of Alpine Lakes this week. This was a spot I hit a couple of weeks ago on a cloudy day, so I decided to revisit on a clear one. In total I probably walked around 12-14 miles. It's tough to say how much elevation gain, because at this spot you hike up to a peak, then down into a lake, and then I went further to another lake above that sits around 4,850ft. It was a bit smoky, but a beautiful day nonetheless.

Finally over the ridge, looking down into the basin of the lake.

At the lake

Most stop here, but if you keep going you can access the other end of the lake by going over another ridge, and get the place to yourself.

By this time it was right at noon, so I figured this was a great place to stop and break fast. The berries are almost past, but they were still abundant enough that I could gather plenty to compliment my meal. I also decided this was the perfect time for a cold plunge. The water was ice cold, but since the sun was out it didn't take long to warm back up on the rocks afterwards.

Refreshed and replenished, I decided that my journey was only halfway over, and that I'd go on to the next lake. I've never been there before, and I just couldn't resist. Onward and upward (literally).

A welcoming refreshment back at the ride after an 8 hr day, to last me until I can hit the taco spot for some carnitas.

Indeed. It's been fairly scarce around here for whatever reason, so when I saw a bottle I snagged it. I will probably baby it until the holidays, but I wanted to make sure I had some around. Plus I've been on a Rye kick as of late.Nice nice, Lagavulin
Many thanks! Yea, this summer was pretty hectic and I wasn't able to get out in the mountains quite as much as I'd hoped, but I'm trying to squeeze as much in as possible in before the weather turns.feast to my eyes...pleasure to see your post again and appreciate your sharing again
That is one cool looking bugout. And as always, your photo’s are excellent.
