EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

I was back and forth between the wood and sheetmetal shops today, tuning up my slide compound saw, finishing up the assembly jigs for fitting/joining/soldering, and actually getting a couple copper corners done late in the afternoon. I had my large BMK Ritter along with me for Wilkins Wednesday, but it was basically relegated to pencil sharpening duty.

I'm lucky to be surrounded by dozens of amazing Mexican restaurants and food tucks, so much so that I'm able to pick different ones that do particular dishes the best for variety (and I've yet to find one that wasn't at least good). I honestly could eat it every day and never get tired of it, and besides being delicious, I also think Mexican food doesn't get enough credit for how nutrient-forward it is.

Anyhow, since K390 is not a stainless steel, I was able to put a patina on it. This is something I've done on most of my multi-bladed traditional knives in carbon steel for a while now, where I let the main blade get a natural patina by cutting fruit, then put a forced patina with this design on the secondary blade. With this Spyderco I did a combination of both. First I used it to cut my fruit for a week or so, then forced the patina over top.

The process is simple. I use a combination of mustard and apple cider vinegar, and apply it in dots using a toothpick (I also experimented with a line that follows the edge with this one). I then let it sit for 20-30 minutes, wash it off, and randomly repeat the process so the dots overlap. The results are the pattern you see. It doesn't always show up in pics as well as it does in real life, as it takes certain angles of light to get the blues and purples to really pop.

Admire your creativity and do as a doer. When I first time saw the Spyderco one, I think of the "skin" of tiger-shark.
Agreed with you about Mexican food, I had similar experience that is at the first week when I landed in the city I stay for 3 years, I went to eat a Mexican restaurant everyday :D

I got the G Shock fever. This one showed up today. I have had such good luck with these plastic watches that I am in hoarding mode. Multi-band and solar batteries in these things have been proven over time.

6900 isn't it? I have one of those that has been taking a beating for about 7 or 8 years. The band has even held up! Occasionally I'll get on the USNO site & check the time with the atomic clock, and it's always right on.

Roger that, it's a GW-6900. Pretty sweet little watch, and as you mentioned, dead on accuracy.

I have always liked this brand, and have run them through the ringer. Whenever they get grungy I just use an old toothbrush and paste to clean them up.

IMHO the quintessential work/play wrist companion. They won't win any beauty pageants though!
