EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

Bet your not looking forward to smelling some WET DOGS😜
Haha. The golden is my dads, and it’s his pond so he’s in it pretty regularly. The Belgian is mine and he rides in the bed of the truck. My wife hates me for it and she’ll give him a bath or hose him off in the yard. He’s my dog when it’s fun stuff but it’s her dog when the other stuff has to be done haha. The Australian is my brothers, he was at work and I usually let them play when he’s gone. He hates it but I let them be dogs and have some fun

That's a really sweet one, Brancron. I did quite a bit of searching including all the Pardue pages at AZCK. I initially thought yours had an FFG blade with just a narrow swedge, but on closer inspection see it has a considerable flat towards the spine, similar to others at that site. There's one at Page 6 that looks like it could be yours, though the size may not match. I was struck looking at some of Mel's own work away from Benchmade by the shared design language with the Al Mar Eagle/Hawk/Falcon as well as some designs not dissimilar to the SERE.

That recess in the bolster is interesting--does it make for a good thumb rest in a pinch grip? Now there's maybe something else on my want list (sigh).

That one on page 6 of the AZCK Pardue listings is indeed the very one! And yes, that recess in the bolster makes a pinch grip very comfortable. It’s just a delightful little old knife in many ways.

I agree with you on the similarities to some Al Mars (of which I’m a huge fan as well).

Received an interesting knife today. A copy of one of three models by the Finnish designer Tapio Wirkkala.

After the success of his "Wirkkala puukko" knife by Hackman Cutlery, one of which is in the collection of The Museum of Modern Art, New York, Tapio continued to draw knives. Tapio Wirkkala offered several of his sketches to the Finnish knife company LapinPuukko.

Knives puukko (in two versions, with guard and without guard), leuku (large and small), and this Sami puukko. In 1977-78 LapinPuukko produced 5600 of the first model (2800 and 2800). The second model remained on paper. The third model was released in a trial batch with a plastic handle, the model was not popular and did not get into mass production.

A master from Moscow made it for me according to Tapio's drawing with a brass guard, as the designer intended, but with a handle made of stained hornbeam instead of plastic.

Well, as usual, at the end of the story there is a dog. :)
