They allowed you to take a knife on a cruise? I used to be able to take a knife 10+ years ago but not anymore.
Ah to be a dreamer
Boker plus buttonlock Kwaiken and my Eureka Jack today. Giving the Malibu the day off. Maybe.....

It was buried deep in my “checked” suitcase, which has never posed a problem flying….so I assumed it would get aboard the ship with no issues. In hindsight, it would make sense that the cruise line would ban knives….but I’m so used to traveling with this one it didn’t really cross my mind while packing.
Now, when I inadvertently disembarked with the knife in my pocket (at our first port) it occurred to me that I might have an issue getting it back aboard. Surprisingly, however, I simply set it in the x-ray bin atop my wallet and alongside my phone….and nobody questioned it. It was in a carry pouch, for what it’s worth. Over the course of 8 days I never had an issue coming or going with it.
The fixed blade I purchased was confiscated immediately though. They said something like “we need to see the blade please”, and when I unwrapped it I think it was the length of the sheath/blade that came into play. My guess is that it’s all dependent on the size of the blade and that the small 31 measures in just below the limit.
Something I found really interesting is that knives are one of the top selling souvenirs sold in Alaska. I wouldn’t have guessed that.
Bitchen combo my friend
Well, I ended up with the Malibu back in my pocket! Go figure. The Boker was good enough to get you to put away the Malibu?![]()
Some great shots! It looks like you got some decent weather for your cruise too. I hear you about sharing knife pictures. I would imagine a lot of us are in a similar place in our lives where we can't exactly enthusiastically talk about knives or share pictures of them with most of the people in our daily lives, but you have us as your knife family now.So bear with me here. After 8 days in Alaska I’ve got a few knife and scenery pics….and no one else to really share them with (particularly the knife photos). Figured I’d start posting a few (in no particular order) to kinda make up for the 12 days I missed.
Keep in mind it isn’t easy to just whip out a knife aboard a “family friendly” cruise ship; seems a lot of folks don’t take too kindly to it. Lol, I’m honestly not sure how I even made it through security getting on and off the ship every day. I picked up a small custom fixed-blade by an Alaskan maker and security confiscated it as I came back aboard the ship that day. Had to wait until the end of the cruise to retrieve it. No problems with the small 31 though, go figure.
Also keep in mind I’m a rank amateur who takes all his pics with a 4-year old iPhone.
Anyway, just wanted to share a few of these over the upcoming days. Apologies for the excessive pics….but if you know me at all you know posting in moderation just ain’t my thing, lol.
Edit: for reference and scale, that glacier in the last pic is 600 feet tall. Unreal.

Damn, but that is some nice seamless medieval patterning style on that handle.I know it’s a bit over the top, but my wife picked this WH out for me on our “Silver Anniversary” 1 year ago today. Never imagined I’d own an “art knife” like this. Carried only on special days, and today met the requirement. It is a beauty.
