EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

Is it the reflection or has the finish worn off the handle?

The first one I’ve seen that is actually used, thank you.
That is a reflection. The finish is still intact on both the blade and handle, with only a couple very small scratches on the handle. I have only had this one for 2 weeks, so not a whole lot of carry time yet. It is being used though. Couple more pictures trying to show finish better.

First impressions are:

1. The blade is awesome. Scary sharp, great finish. Only issue with the blade I have is the grind makes it pretty thick behind the edge. Opening packages, cutting rope, etc. this is one of the best knife I have used. For cutting up some food, it doesn’t work very well. Fine for sausage, not great for food prep on cheese, potatoes, etc.

2. Action is very smooth. Better than Sebenza and Spartan, which is saying a lot for me. Not a flipper, slow roll open only.

3. Handle is slick, almost too slick. The jimping on the blade is well placed and helps, but this is not a knife I would take fishing on a boat. Too slick.

4. The pocket clip is cheap, and creates a hot spot when using it. No big deal, but a machined claim would have fit so much better, especially on this level of knife.

Conclusion: I want another Rockstead. Most of my complaints are handle related, so I think a different model might alleviate some of those. I’ll report back later after I get some more time with this one.

Nice day today--the sun finally came out, we got our cardio walk in, I patched a couple tire tubes on the wife's garden wagon, she washed her truck, and we dropped it off for service tomorrow.

I made it a MILK Monday with this one of my two CKF's, the other being the SSE. I wrote to Mike Kulygin a while back inquiring about the derivation of those two acronymic knife names. He said SSE stood for something like Sukhoi Second Edition. He couldn't recall how they came up with MILK, so if Mike doesn't know, well then who does anyway? Guess I'll just forget about the all caps name and go with its looks and action being smooth as....

Nice! I finally gave up trying to find a Griptilian in S90V/CF, but I call them every once in a while to ask them to bring it back. They switched to doing the same treatment on the Barrage family, and then quit doing those too. I almost did the mini-barrage (don't like the full-size Barrage) while they still had them in custom shop in S90V and CF, and then they were gone.

I settled for a Mini Freek in S90V/CF, and I'm considering the full size version which is slightly larger, but the Griptilian will always be my favorite. Don't want the S90V/CF 940, but might have to get the Bugout S90V/CF someday. Of course they'll drop them by the time I cave in.

TODAYS EDC CARRY - Shootout left front pocket with iPhone, Ochs Worx Solar Storm in the right front hidden pocket underneath S&W 360PD (with pen), SAK in small right cargo pocket with flashlight and earbuds, TRM Atom right back pocket with comb...

Nice carry, how you liking the Shootout?
I would highly recommend the 560-1 super Freek! Here is a great review of it

I ended up getting one of each of the custom shop knives, minus the minis (my hands are too big). I went with a CF/Dama Barrage then hand polished it to a mirrored surface & re etched

Edit: Yard project started, the Slim went back to its presentation case and I grabbed a nice little work knife. Thanks for the sharp surprise DocJekl!

Thursday is the start of my Polish weekend! I will be carrying it with nothing else in that pocket today. 🥰⚔️

I thought you weren't going to carry anything else that day except for your Herman? 😆 I'm glad you like the Jetpack.😁 I second guessed myself when sending you the "bird with knife", and grabbed what cheap knife I had laying around in the car to throw in for ya' - too bad I didn't throw in a Herman, eh?

I need to try to sharpen this thing again. Didn't have much luck last time.

How do you like it - Is it worth $300?

You don't have any issues with M4 corroding there on the west coast?

Carbon fiber flipper framelock Friday.

Been forever since I carried this. Considering tossing it on the exchange to be honest. Taco bearings, MXG clips.

I almost snagged one of those on eBay but convinced myself to behave 😂

APurvisBlades has a drop every month where you can buy a custom timascus clip and send your knife in to get it done. He did my Rockstead Higo II, and currently has my Shin DLC over there doing another Rockstead custom clip.

I like it a lot. I try to rotate in my Microtech UTX-85 and Guardian Tactical Recon 035 in the mix, but keep coming back to the shootout for its light weight, and the thin slice'y 3.5" blade. The action is not glass smooth like the Recon 035, but it's not bad at all.

I do have a couple of regular Barrage, but while I prefer the larger Griptilian to their Mini Grip, I prefer the Mini Barrage to the regular. I REALLY wish I had ordered the CF Mini Barrage when available, but I think they were not offering S90V at that time in the custom shop and so I held off. Instead of adding S90V they took away customizing altogether.

I will probably end up with a Super Freek, but probably wont be fast enough before Benchmade stops making the version I'd want.
