EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

Inkosi again

I left the Lower Cape early for a 6 hour session of continuing education that's part of the 12 hour, every two year cycle for renewal of my unrestricted construction supervisor's license. (It's the same material every two years, if that makes any sense. Not!) Traffic was light heading off and I got to Plymouth in 55 minutes, but returning mid-afternoon with all the incoming vacationers on changeover day took two hours--groan.

Anyway, it took me a while to pick a knife for today, passing on a couple larger ones--the new AFCK and my Crooked River--finally settling on the CruCarta PM 2. The room's mostly older construction guys sitting two to a table, so I wasn't worried about shocking anyone, but it did seem something a bit more modest was appropriate and I did have it out to use while partaking of the lunch I carried in for our short mid-day break. It was striking that only three of us out of 40-50 there carried in--my usual work habit--while the rest left the building in search of nearby sustenance.

I should have shot some stationary in-car pics today as I spent a lot of time cleaning its too-long-neglected interior, but I took my usual sorts instead, wandering about the property when I got home.

The perfect knife

Just got back from a week long camping trip on Mt. St. Helens. It was super beautiful out there! This was the end/summit of a trail going up a mountain overlooking Swift Reservoir and the countryside around it.šŸ¤™ My phone camera refuses to capture the scratches, snails, and all-around patina on my knives, but this small Sebenza doesn't have much bead blasting left! The texture's smooth from all the use and pocket carry.

I passed on carrying my AFCK 806-1101 to my CSL Continuing Ed class yesterday, but was eager to have it alongside today. The weather is absolutely gorgeous on-Cape today with temps mid-70ish and the dew point well below 60, seemingly the first time it's been under 70 all month. Taking my walk late morning in the fresh, clean air, the big knife seemed a bit much for IWB carry so I set it aside temporarily in favor of the smaller BMK Sequel.

Later, snapping pics of the two, I was struck by their very similar blade grinds. The 707 is, of course, the replacement model for the 705, little brother to the almost identical but larger classic 710, another favorite here. While the general orientation of the 705, 707, and 710 models is along a straight, central axis from handle butt to blade tip, AFCKs (800, 806, and cousin 805 TSEK) present a fairly profound arched configuration. I have a number of these various models, favorites all, but have always thought of them as quite different and have only just noticed the similarities of the blade grinds amongst these 700- and 800-series knives.

It sure is a good one. Honestly, I was always just OK with the PM2 until I got the CruCarta with full liners and now I'm head over heels with it. Having re-scaled my first Para 2 with an RGT fluted Ti set, I now have two that have moved way up the pecking order in my accumulation and I find myself pausing at Paramilitary listings on the Excahange wondering if I should pick up another.

Hahaha, as soon as I received mine I ordered another one as a backup. Love the feel of the Micarta. The Cruwear is definitely a favorite. Then, I went and picked up a lava flow carbon fiber with M4. Still favor the Crucarta though.
