EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

Pretending to be a “gentleman” today with this smallish flipper from J Blade (Johan van der Walt).

I thought carrying the book around would help offset my tattered cargo shorts and stained t-shirt….and make me look like an eccentric intellectual intending to catch up on some reading (as opposed to a slovenly slob with nothing to do on his day off).

For the record, it didn’t work. My wife’s first words to me today were “Oh good…you’re finally gonna get started cleaning out the garage!”

In hindsight, I probably should’ve dog-eared a few pages or tossed in a bookmark. Pretty sure that’s where my brilliant plan came apart.

I do lap the washers on a strop with DBK diamond spray. The OCD-4-EDC grease idea came from watching them service a CRK with it and got a good action. With it, I don't have to lube it as often as I might with NanoOil, but it's not nearly as sluggish as with the CRK fluorinated grease...
I've got an old green-loaded strop that I use to lap my washers, occasionally cleaning and re-vitalizing it. I've got another unused smallish two-sided strop that I should buy some diamond spray for and try out your method. On my bushing pivot knives, I'll tape a piece of fine automotive sandpaper to a glass sheet and take down the washers a few hundredths of a mm just once, which frees things up very nicely to start.

I think the thing with CRK grease is it's meant to dry out and act kinda like you're waxing the washers, but it's hard to get so little applied so it won't just stay gunky. The NanoOil will need occasional refreshing, but my needle applicators are right there and if a knife feels a little sluggish in the morning, two tiny drops makes all right with the world.

There must be a few more CRK heretics like us that enjoy their knives, but don't stick to strict orthodoxy, eh Doc?

I have the DBK diamond spray on a small DBK portable strop, and my larger everyday strop has the green compound. However, I do not recommend the small portable DBK sharpener unless you are desperate, as the coarse side is way too rough.

End of the day.

Look at my video - I cleaned, lubed, and tuned mine to flick open and reverse flick easily. Using Slick'em All grease from OCD-4EDC and it's even better than in the video now. I do the same with most of my other CRK users, if I'm going to carry them.

I should have bought one years, they seem very difficult to find now. I've got other expenses now, but my birthday is in April and I will look for a purple one then. Thanks for the input.
