Digging that blade. How did you etch it?

Played with the torch a bit yesterday. I'm happy with it. More interesting than the plain gray.

Saw this yesterday and decided to put off practicing for my piano final to play with some fire.

Digging that blade. How did you etch it?

The knife had a lot of light scratches,it's my primary work knife. I etched it in Ferric Chloride from amazon10 bucks for maybe 30 seconds until it turned grey. Then I cleaned it up and splattered finger nail polish to get the pattern I was looking for. When it dried, I etched again for couple minutes, checking ever so often to get the look I wanted. After the etch I removed the nail polish and gave it a light buff.
