EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

Sometimes I got to pull him out of the toolbox and let him eat.

I stuck with Benchmade again today and picked another modded knife just a couple over from the last two days' carries. This one needed a bit of edge touch-up this morning and I gave it a quick run through three grits on the SharpMaker before heading next door to work on fabbing and prepping the replacement newel for our top floor balcony/hallway. As you can see in the pic below and others, I didn't do much in the way of getting the angle-check red Sharpie off the edge.

The primary mods on this 581 Barrage were de-assisting, and removing the backspacer and safety, replacing those with simple standoffs. You can also get a glimpse in the following pic of the stock skeletonized liners thanks to the now open back.

Small mods included replacing the bright bolster fasteners with black, leftover clip screws and adding black thumb studs that came compliments of BMK CS.

There was a time I kinda liked AO knives and had a number of them, but that time passed and I either de-assisted or sold them off (or both) and this one and a mini-Barrage that was a gift from my wife and has accordingly remained stock are the only two I have left.

Around the house carry, malanika is itching to get out. Just been busy in the city.

With malanika I'm not too sure about sharpening it with how i would need to get close to the handle freehanding on a stone. So far I'm just putting on a "microbevel", it looks wide thinkimg because I'm using low angle. Cuts great and does wood working great. Cruwear provides longevity, gets sharp with a bite and thin edge is staying stable. All this coupled with how a scandi can start a cut into material, so awesome.
Scabbard lol for this knoife is brown so this pairing makes sense right now.

Very well thought out…IMHO. You’ve got me very curious as to what the sheath looks like and what your thoughts are on it.

I gave my one and only Manix 2 to one of my sons a few weeks back. Miss it bad but am so happy that such a great Spydie went to a loved one. Those Malanika scales ??? 🔥🔥🔥 Please tell us what wood the handle scales are made of….Bog Oak, maybe ?

Oh great thanks, in addition to answering Zeroedin, you also gave me the next thing I am probably going to spend money on if I can track one down.

Lol, happy to see I’m not alone. I wasn't even aware these existed….but the moment Josh replied I started casually searching the Internet to find one. Then, having noticed they’re a production knife with a fairly reasonable MSRP, I got really excited and decided to double-down on my efforts. I mean, the lines and design cues look like what I’d expect to see if Shiro and Sharp by Design had a love-child that was raised by Holt and Hoghouse Knives. I’m really diggin’ it.

Now, several hours later, I’m honestly a bit relieved to learn they’re not easy to find. While I love them, my “Knife Fund” simply can’t survive another hit at this time.

Anyway, if I do stumble upon one I’ll let you know….assuming my mature decision-making process stays in place beyond the next 24 hours 😂🤪
