Morning route to work from my daughter's new gymnasium.
Today I have this funny little slip joint in my pocket.
It was made by my old friend, a knifemaker from St. Petersburg. He sometimes makes them in small series of several pieces. In the series, all the knives are different in blade shape and handle material. All knives are made by hand and there are no two identical ones.
I asked him to signal when he had a free knife. And yesterday he called and said that there were a couple of free knives, and I could come and choose. Naturally, I was in his workshop in half an hour.
The most interesting thing about these knives is the steel.
The knifemaker found a whole package of saws for cutting rails somewhere. They are over 60 years old. Hardness 63+, very high wear resistance, and a very aggressive cut. The closest analogue is Bohler S610.
