EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

Putting together a Tuxedo lift. There is my Demko in there somewhere :)

Glad to see someone talking about the PF818. Its lines really speak to me, and I find myself carrying mine over other blades an order of magnitude higher priced. My one gripe with it is that I wish the clip was deeper carry, but this is a minor gripe - itโ€™s still great.

Thanks! Yeah, it was the breakout model for Petrified Fish in the west, not their first but the first to really take off. Years later, it remains one of the best values in a budget knife. Petrified Fish does one of the better heat treatments on Chinese D2. Mine was actually tested. I think it was around 60 HRC and cut-testing results were near the top for all Chinese D2 tested. Not bad for a $30 knife!

So it's hard to complain but you're right. It isn't perfect. My main issue with the clip is that they don't use flush-fitting screws so they protrude a little into the clip space. To be fair, this was a more widespread issue when the 818 was first released and I still see new models like that from a variety of companies. (It's also an issue with companies making aftermarket deep-carry clips for Spyderco.) Beyond that, I did a little ergonomic softening on the G10 scales but I do that to lots of knives. I don't know if current variants have upgraded to ceramic bearings like a lot of PF's other knives but my release-day 818 came with steel bearings. There were okay but I did upgrade to Skiff bearings.

BTW, David Chen also designed the PF838. It's a bigger knife with a thicker blade in another fun grind. Here is an older pic of mine with a cup of coffee.
