Right. I much prefer leather holsters. Kydex is less expensive, and requires almost no maintenance. But after a little bit of use, a leather holster will mold to the shape of your hip, which makes them more comfortable. But, that's just my opinion, and I'm an old dinosaur.
Thats one of many reasons why I like IWB and of course Crossbreed :)
The leather is against your body preferably horse hide with the Kydex away from your body, Best of both worlds.IMG_2533.jpeg

Morning.

Found a NOS Don Hume officer holster that fits well after a little adaptation (trigger guard has a different shape) 🥰. Nothing beats thick classic leather; lus it prints less compared to Kydex. Wish Chad / @cpirtle or Bill / @duramax would make holsters, then I wouldn't have to search that long for a new gun.

Don Hume holsters are high quality without a doubt.
They smell the best to 😆

I made a post a little while ago about how much I like the old Kershaw Avalanche model. Well I just got a second one! It's an older one this time.

I must have got my original one from Kershaw's warehouse back in around 2008-2009. This new one is an earlier example. You can tell a few different ways. They have different Kershaw logos, they have different thumstuds (the old one is pressed in whereas the new one is screwed in), the older one doesn't have jimping on the spine, the old one has a g10 backspacer whereas the newer one had a polymer backspacer which I took off in place of standoffs. The pocket clip is also different (as well as the available pocket clip screw holes), on the newer one there's only a Torx screw on the presentation side of the pivot, whereas both sides accept a Torx on the older one, and finally the grind is different; the newer one has a high flat grind which is a good mix of slicy and tough, whereas the older one has a lower secondary bevel but with a deep hollow grind. Both have a hidden small smooth inlay directly underneath the low spot of the pocket clip so that the aggressive G10 doesn't shred your pockets in a few weeks.

Edited: I forgot to mention that the newer one is in S30v as etched into the blade, however I'm not 100% sure what the steel is on the old blade. If anyone knows, I'd very much appreciate the insight. I believe they started etching the blade steel onto their blades in around 2006-2007. I've seen pictures of other old DLC coated Avalanches (like mine and from about the same era) that are etched with 440v (equivalent to S60v), although mine doesn't have a steel etched on it. That'd be cool if it was S60v also.

And, since I've already over-explained the intricacies of the two, and already made it extremely boring for those that aren't interested 😂, one last thing... Both the geometry of the lockbar to the blade tang is built a bit different and the newer one has a lockbar cutout, yet the old one does not. This makes the lockbar pressure quite a bit higher on the old one. A little bit tougher on the thumb when unlocking, but definitely a super secure lockup, more secure than most liner locks it would seem.
