EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

What're your thoughts on that Reate? I remember they were really popular on release.
It’s not bad sir. The blade is Elmax which I’m not much of a fan of but I think that stems from a bad experience with heat treat on an old ZT. It’s definitely sharp and I like that. I’ve been fairly happy with Reate knives. The action is not bad but not exactly silky smooth either. Seems like there’s a hitch in the giddyap. I suppose a drop or two of nano oil. Ight help but u haven’t put that much effort into it yet.

It's amazing how people still remember that. There have been similar fiascos with Chinese D2 and M390 from multiple countries. Elmax is actually great with a decent heat treatment. Coincidentally, Larrin gives it identical ratings alongside S45VN.

I don't know how well Reate does their Elmax. Ear to the ground, most of the Chinese companies using Elmax now are at least doing reasonable production heat treatments. I like that Elmax has increasingly become the go-to premium alternative to M390/20CV on Chinese knives. (It's worth mentioning that at least some of the Chinese companies have improved on their M390/20CV over the last couple of years. WE and Kubey (KB) are good examples. They're not on the level of Shirogorov or Spyderco but they've definitely improved.)

BTW, have you taken the knife apart? Sometimes, just cleaning with alcohol and properly lubricating them can help. Skiff bearings can be well worth the $15 or whatever as an upgrade.

Today was all 14C28N for me. Nice and easy.

Mornin guys, happy Friday!

I continued my Leek-a-thon by carrying my S30v/G10 scaled leek yesterday. That's the last of my Leeks, but it's cool that they all have different steels and configurations. Also carried the James Kline.

I also came accross a nice little mushroom patch on my journey. I think the big one is an Amanita Muscaria. There is a ton of myth and legend behind this mushroom, an interesting little rabbit hole. I found some last year at about the same time too, but they looked more like your typical archetypal Amanita Muscaria.

Here are the ones that I came across last year.

By the way, I don't have any idea what I'm doing with mushroom picking, so don't take this as any sort of identification advice. I just think that they're Amanitas.

I am carrying my Benchmade Bugout today since it stays light in the pocket but still handles most of the small tasks that come up during the day, and I paired it with a Victorinox Compact for the extra utility. I’ve been appreciating how well this combo covers everything without feeling bulky, and it has me thinking more about simplifying my rotation overall. What made you pick the knife you are carrying today was it the days tasks the weather or just the mood?
