Just another Magnacut Monday here with the MCNEES PM Mac 2 3.5 in Atomic Shockwave Titanium scales and Magnacut blade steel.
I gained a ton of respect for McNees Knives yesterday (not that I didn't before, I just didn't really know much about them). I listened to The Knife Freak Show (Which is Jonathan McNees and Chase Boatright's podcast). They have a series of technical episodes, I listened to their talk on detents and on lockstick. I learned that they both stopped using oil as lube in their knives and started using Wicked Wax instead. I've always noticed that if the lockfaces on a framelock/linerlock get a bit of oil on them, they become super sticky (every knife is different, some are effected very much from this, some aren't). They confirmed that and talked about how they completely stopped using oil or grease as lube entirely and instead put a light film of wax on both sides of their washers as well as a little bit on the detent track.

They also talked about how they carbidize their Ti lockfaces at 90% power first (on their industrial carbidizing machine), then put a finer layer at 10% power. Then they do the bead blasting (and stonewashing if that's the desired finish of the scales), then they go back and carbidize the lockface with one more fine layer, which really helps stop lockstick.

Although I already knew McNees were cool knives, I gained a lot of respect for both of their companies!
