EDC - your Thoughts?

SilverFoxKnows, I like the same lineup of pocket folders you do. I've been very attracted to Laguioles recently--this as a result of flipping through websites looking for an analogue to the medium Okapi I picked up a few months ago. Okapis are very similar to Laguioles and Basque Yatagans, but tons cheaper. At any rate, these designs are so light, slim and comfortable for their size I think a lot of people would like them if they tried them. However I've seen several posts that suggest Laguioles are hit-and-miss as to quality. Can you suggest a couple of good ones?

I started out about 1959-60 with a simple "Boyscout" pocketknife, you know the one with a big blade an awl, a screwdriver/bottle opener and a can opener. Pretty basic.

Late 70's I found myself carrying a single locking blade as well as a SAK Spartan. The locking blade started out as a Buck Squire IIRC and has evolved through many makers (Schrade, Boker, Spyderco, Cold Steel et al) and today is a Benchmade 960; tomorrow it could easily be a 940, 806D2 or 710M2 if one of those were more suitable.

As for SAK and multi-tools, they are always around. There's an SAK Mechanic in my car along with an Original Leatherman. I know exactly where my 24 year old SAK Champion (not the SwissChamp) is along with another Leatherman, a Randall #14, a 2-D Mag-lite, a Surefire 6P, two FRS radios and a Colt 1991A1 w/ spare mags. All in one bag ready to go.

EDC's are nice, but make it part of a system.

My EDC History

Age 9-17 Small VIC SAK, not sure of model. Had twin blades, saw, awl, cork-screw, tweezers and toothpick.

Age 17-25 - Large SAK - Rucksack.

Age 25-28 - Leatherman PST (original)

Age 28-30 - Mini Leatherman

From here it gets a little murkier. I think it goes something like

Small benchmade lockback one hand opener (with hole)
Spyderco Endura
Spyderco Steel Endura
Spyderco Michael Walker (found this one on a rock when climbing, it was G10, lockback with a slightly upswept blade)
Leatherman Wave
Sold most of collection at this point and bought
Spyderco Terzuola SP-15, still my favourite, now a drawer queen.
Tried to replace the Terzoula with all kinds of crappy CKRT's etc
Spyderco Military
Spyderco Native
SAK Soldier

EDC is now rotation of last 3.

Phew, that was cathartic, I feel purged...

Victorinox Camper US model #53301 (international/Swiss # 1.3616)
note some of the models did not have the extra "Camping" logo.
