Edge of the World

Pretty cool pics for sure!!! Your dark silhouette against that back drop is still the best...

Amazing!!! That looks totally beautiful in pics, I bet it would be even more beautiful actually seeing it. I really dig the last one with the battle mistress.

Great pictures! Thats a beautiful place. How far is it from where you live???

Such a cool thread, with awesome pictures.

Aren't you worried some knucklehead will ruin your day, by capturing you and thinking you are a special forces spy with such an awesome blade?

Great shots, man!!! Very cool...
Thanxx for sharing them with us here!

Thank you so much everybody for the nice comments! This kind of feedback is really encouraging to share your infiperiences on this forum

Just an echo but wow, offroad, busse slashing, desert campout. Looks like so much.

Haha! Yes, looks like so much, but there also isn't much more to do in Saudi Arabia: no bars, no cinemas, no theaters, no public music, no discos and almost zero sports facilities. You have to spend your time somehow ;)

Thanks Pokey! It's about 70 km (45 miles) north-west of my home but most of the drive requires 4x4. It takes me about 4 hours to get there.

Honestly, I am never 100% relaxed when I see another vehicle approaching in these areas. Good thing is they usually are as afraid of you as you as you are of them - so you do your best to avoid each other. You also see them coming from miles away thanks to the dust clouds they throw up into the sky. When I'm camping and they come too close I get ready for a quick takeoff: pack up my valuables, get on the drivers seat and start the engine. So far in all cases the vehicles disappeared again or turned out to be manned by other off road tourists. Camping over night is not that critical if you choose your rest place wisely. After extinguishing the camp fire you are swallowed by the night and can see and hear approaching vehicles from even further away.

Great pics mate, nice 100 Series TLC as well (I have an 80 Series).....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The "No Booze" rule seems to be the only "negative" ... otherwise what a beautiful country and awesome pic's ...

I had wondered whether Saudi was more strict than other countries such as the UAE ... can you still apply for a license to buy alcohol as a non muslim consumer in Saudi ? You could in the UAE ... but it needed a lot of paperwork ... although once done it lasted a year ... plus you had the hotel bars licensed to serve alcohol ... I expect Saudi will have those in the city centres ... but how do you get by at home ?

LOL ... no wonder everyone drives out to the desert a bit ... must be a "moonshine" pocket industry going on in a lot of places ...:D

Actualy it's a Nissan Patrol :p But the TLC is a great ride as well and especially the 80 series is an off road legend

Are'nt there International Bars in some of the bigger hotels where you can get a drink ? Kind of using the "Embassey" idea of "foreign soil" so that drinks can be served ?

Also, how bad does it get if you drink in your home ?

Beautiful scenary, very hot country, and no ability to sink a "cold one" seems a pretty tough "combo" ... how do you manage it ??

The "no booze" rule doesn't hurt me that much as I'm dry for more than three years now. However, in my previous life I drank enough to be able to evoke the desired effect anytime by the mere power of my imagination ;)
You'll find "International Bars" throughout the Middle East but not in Saudi Arabia. Even other Arabs consider Saudi Arabia extremely strict in this regard. If you are caught with booze (at home or outside) it can end up pretty ugly: prison, corporal punishment (e.g. lashes) and for me as an expat finally deportation. Of cause you can find alcohol on the black market, but you can compare the related secrecy and danger to buying heroin in Europe or the US. Even if I drank I wouldn't risk it here. By time I learned to love Holsten non alcoholic - also because it reminds me of my hometown Hamburg, Germany

.......well wash my mouth out with soap.... it really looked like a 100 with some aftermarket body panels..(must be the paint fumes I have been inhaling) ....only just explained to the guy across the road he either needs to move or sell his Nissan and get a Toyota.... ;) :p
