Edge of the World

Interesting ... I did'nt realise Saudi was that bad ... I had heard a few comments here and there but had'nt paid too much attention ... glad you can still get things like Holsten none alcoholic beer though ... I have'nt tried that one but will do if I ever see it ...

If I ever had to work in Saudi then I guess I would be finding out who the Irish defence attache was .... pronto .... and I would be praying they shipped in the Guiness !!!! Drinking inside the embassy only though .... I like my skin where it is on my back !

No problems with that. They have frequent events in western embassies and serve booze and pork on these occasions. You even need a reservation for their extremely popular public viewing events for rugby- and soccer matches .

I spent a few weeks in Kuwait, before going into and coming out of Iraq, people just don't realize how freakin Hot it is over there, I think it was around 130 in the afternoon, I was going through the first time around the September of 03 time frame and one of the American contractors said it was alot cooler than August, I just shook my head like WTF!!!!

Last weekend I went to a place called the "Edge of the World" in central Saudi Arabia. My companion was a modified CGFBM. Here are some pics.

First I wanted to go by plane but when I saw THIS I had second thoughts:

After this small bush I haven't seen any greenery for hours:

Thanks for watching! Hope you enjoyed the pics.

So now we know the truth about that KSA/NASA joint space-fighter collaboration... I knew it!

Nice sofa! I can't believe someone forgot it there. Mind picking it up for me next time you're in the neighborhood??? Wonder how much shipping would be to the States? ;)

And the plant... I must wonder if they are available for export. I'm pretty sure that it would make for a house plant that even my wife can't kill. :D

Seriously... very cool pics. Amazing how desolate it is there. Are you allowed to carry any firearms?

Excellent pics and a nice travelogue for those of us who have not been to that part of the world. The Busse would certainly be comforting and a must have tool when out in the desert. Based on the surroundings are you also able to carry a rifle or pistol for the predatory variety of two and four legged creatures - camels excluded

Haha! Yeah, somebody has to explain to me what this plane is good for. I really have no idea  These plants are actually pretty toxic. You don't want them near your wife unless you don't want her near to you anymore ;)

For expats like me it is extremely difficult to get a firearm license here. For Saudis it's much easier, but since 9/11 and everything that followed nobody would give you a gun that is registered on his name. So you are left with two choices: Being unprotected or illegally armed.

I hope you are in the later category mentioned above ;).....stay safe brother! Thanks for all the pics and comments -they are greatly appreciated.

Great pics man!

Gress, this is awesome

Great shots and a great scenery! Is it the border region of Arizona/Utah? Monument valley? I'd love to visit this part of the US someday. Looking at your pictures I clearly imagine John Wayne riding into the sunset.

Is it allowed to drive around as you like or do you have to stay on the tracks?

Yes. This is exactly the place.
The best (IMO) trip would be a week or so long starting with Death Valley in California and then to the Great Canyon and then a side trip to Arizona Meteorite Crater and then to Monument Valley and then up north to Utah where you get all other wonders from Glen to Bryce canyons to Zion park. This is the land I love. November-December would be the time when it will be less people and sometimes no people (weekdays) on the ridges in Utah. Bring you Patrol with you :)
