Edge Pro

I pondered for 3 months before deciding on the Wicked Edge, http://www.wickededgeusa.com/ and it is sooo easy to use. I have it permanently setup and can simply clamp in a knife, set it to factory or personal angle settings and away you go. There are very good You Tube videos too and the service is outstanding.

It looks like a very nice system. How do the stones stay on the guide rods? Is there some sort of 'stop' to keep them from sliding all the way off when you're using them, or do you just need to be careful?

Good question because I had to deal with that too; the grits just slide on and off. What I did was to use the older method which was to move the grits against the edge with care, especially with longer blades. I then finish with the 'strop' grits moving away from the edge, again with care. It may seem extreme but I work with my hands and if they get cut or damaged I cannot work hence cannot earn money so what I do is to use cut-proof gloves when using the Wicket Edge.

Yes... I'm inclined to agree with you, Ankerson. This is the sort of edge I easily get with the EdgePro too. No worrying about cut fingers when I sharpen, and the results I require.

The 'Wicked Edge' is a nice setup, but it has some drawbacks that I wouldn't want to deal with. I'll stick with EdgePro. I like mirror finish edges. :)

Alfred12 I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I have pulled the trigger and ordered the EdgePro Prof. kit3 system.
But I have also added a couple of additional spare parts, a 120 and fine diamond stone, 3000 polishing tape and the powder to level the stones.

Despite sharpening a bit more serious for 2 years now and getting them easily hair shaving sharp, I have a whole range of quality kitchen knifes that can do with some improvement.
 
Ankerson, those are VERY impressive edges, I have never tried to get my edges to that level, not sure if I can, but I will try just to see if I can.
 
I've had the edgepro pro with sissors attachment for several years now and have absolutely no regrets. The above edges are typical. I don't see how anything could do better. The diamond stones are great too! Quicker and less mess. I have had trouble on scandi grinds out toward the tip though. Since I'm fairly new to scandi's I've not had a chance to determine if this is due to the actual sharpener or the grind itself though. Other than that, I've successfully sharpened everything from 1/4" Busse BM down to very small and thin slip joint blades. :thumbup: for the Edgepro...
 
All of my knives are sharpened on the EP "PRO" model, and they all have edges that look like the one in the picture. :)

It's not hard to do a good job if you have the right tools. :thumbup:
 
I'd asked about Edge Pro Apex in another thread and one member asked me to comment on easy it was to use when I use mine for the first time.

I got it early this week, sharpened one of my beater knife with it, and although I haven't watched the DVD yet, I have to say that I really like it, and the learning curse seems to be a breeze.


I have nothing to complain about, except for the going price. It's expensive for what you get, but then, it works very well. I don't regret getting it at all.
 
I will say after seeing a lot of knives done on the EP, that I don't believe that anything would get a knife any sharper. As another poster said, it get knives as sharp as the steel will allow. The 10,000 grit really does a job.:thumbup:

I am not knocking any other system because I sure have not tried them all. And I have seen Knifenut and richard j's edges.

This is indeed one heck of a nice system. Same here, I haven't tried many sharpening system out there--My first was the Spyder edge and my second, well, you know what it is...
 
Has anybody tried the ceramic steel that comes with the Edgepro Pro set?
I am interested in your results with it.
I already have a normal and a ceramic steel, but have so so results with the ceramic one.

The ceramic steel is the best burr removal tool I've ever come across. It's 1200 grit I beleive.
 
Amen to that. Has anyone ever used those rock hard felt burr remover/strops. They are cheap as heck and I have had pretty darn good service with them.

Maybe his ceramic is a finer grid.
the one I have is a "Kyocera 9 inch fine". But no specs to what "fine" means.
 
Anybody find that their Edge Pro sharpened knives hold an edge longer? Mine seem to hold that shaving edge better with the Edge Pro. Having the stone on top of the blade really gives good feed back, especially in the final stages of edge refinement. I can really gauge the pressure I'm exerting and achieve that nice light touch needed during those final de-burring strokes. The ability to slightly raise and maintain that controlled angle on those last light passes is where this system shines.

You've taken polish to a whole other level. Very polished photos also. Are you using the polishing tapes and if so what grit?

Some of them are 3000 grit, some are 6000.

These are after 7000 grit.
