One would have to be especially careful with a system like this for any blade corner, be it Americanized tanto or just a pointy tip. You only want the rods moving perpendicular to the edge, so that it will only remove metal perpendicular to the edge, which is normally assured in the process. However, there are an infinite number of perpendiculars to a point, and there are only one (in the case of a tip) or two (in the case of an A. tanto) that you want to remove metal in.Would this system work with a tanto blade? Or would you wind up rounding it off?
Based on my experience with the Sharpmaker, you'd have to ease up/off when approaching the corner/tip so as to prevent it from rounding off.
