Educate Me

I can understand both preferences. In many ways weight is a cost, never a desirable attribute in and of itself but a necessary sacrifice for other desirable attributes. Weight doesn't bother me much, so it's a price I'm happily willing to pay, but I get those that don't.

On the other hand, 8oz is very heavy for a folder, but even if you're a weedy 100lb guy, it's still only 0.5% of your body weight. That's really not much considering your shoes usually weigh 2-3 pounds.

I just found it hilarious that you gave excellent advice to the newb here and I really enjoyed how you "educated" him on proper forum etiquette and then On your very next post............

Great post Joschka.

I carry multiple knives daily. Why? Because I'm a knife nut and I can. I can pull out my Lionspy or Manix 2 and no one at work will even blink. Lucky me. I could probably carry my CRK Nyala on my hip, or maybe even the ESEE 6 and most of people at work would only ask why but would care less that I have it.

Plus, I live in Texas so most people out in public don't blink either when larger folders are pulled out and used.

I thinks it's a matter of several things. I like a small knife for ease of carry and I like collecting them. I own a few SAK's and a few nice stag traditionals. I also own some big (medium really) folders and carry one of them daily as well. I always view the large folder as my last ditch blade in a self defense situation ( I carry a gun everyday too). My smaller folders or my necker will cut almost everything I need during the week at work. Cutting an apple at lunch? The SAK Farmer or GEC 77 will work fine. I don't need the Lionspy or ZT0350 for that.
So, I'll ask the question for some of you. Why wouldn't you carry at least two knives (I know you do OP)? Small for small tasks and large for large tasks.

Completely ignored your own great advice and I had to scroll up to see what you were talking about!!!😛

Sorry for the off topic post but I really did laugh out loud.

I used to carry a cryo and eventually a techno when wearing sport shorts because my 550, Large CRK, or SMF would weigh them down big time. I recently sold the Techno this winter probably because I didn't ever wear sport shorts and now I'm beginning to rethink that desicion with the recent weather change. Mmmm mm. ........

Part of my EDC rotation I carry either a BM mini Grip or a CRK S21 plain Jane for several reasons. 1. They fit my hand better then a 3.5" or 4" blade, 2. Doesn't take that much pocket real estate, 3. because of the weight they pretty much disappears in my pocket and 4. when using the knife it's less intimidating if someone.

I agree.

I PREFER a folder with about a 3.3" - 3.5" blade, titanium slabs and a five-ounce maximum; closed length minimum of about 4.5".
That usually says CRK or Southard AVO to me.
But lots of opinions is why there are lots of knives.

Now the 3" Blade in the 6" Handle (Spyderco), I don't get.

Probably to provide a decent sized handle for a short blade for use by big handed people in short max blade length states.

I don't even get many comments about dual open carry fixed blades here in central Texas.

,,, snip,,,
We have very nice knife and gun laws and just passed open carry to compliment our concealed carry laws. ,,,snip

No quite yet. Passed the Senate, now sitting in a House committee. Will have to get out of committee, then passed by the house, then go to the "let's work out our differences" committee if the House makes any changes to the Senate, and then re-passed by both the House AND/OR Senate if the bill changed any at all from what the Senate/House passed in the first time through the respective chamber. And people wonder why it takes so long to make any changes in Texas. It's not just that we are stubborn. It takes half the 4 month session just to figure out the rules. :D

All I have to say is: if you don't carry any knife because it feels too heavy, don't skip squat day. It adds too much "weight"? Gimme a break.

I have one of those!

Si! "El Max" - Jefe de Cuchillos... I always imagine the dude from "sabado gigante" saying "El Max" like he says all the English words, like he says "Pep-seee Co-laaaah"

I've carried pocket knives for over 50 yrs, have carried a william henry with a 2.6" blade for about 12 yrs now. I've NEVER needed a bigger blade and don't want/need anything bigger in my pocket. Wouldn't even consider a belt sheath.......jmo, diff strokes for diff folks............
