lol. funny.I have long hair, goatee and earings. Look more like a dealer than the teacher/educator that I am. They found it hard to believe that I was weighing arrow components down to the grain, But having matching arrows makes a big difference in flight and accuracy. Just like a 180grain bullet flies way different than a 150 grain bullet.
Different time crossing border....agent says, "Anyone ever tell you that you don't look like a principal?"
Me: "Yes, and they told me I didnt look like a teacher before that."
Agent with a grin on his face: "Ever cause you any problems?"
Me now grinning: "Only when I cross the border!"
Good laugh and he sent me on my way.
The agents can be pretty friendly. This last summer when I crossed northbound from Wa state heading towards Vancouver, the agent takes my passport, spends a minute looking things up on his computer, then turns to me and asks "do you own any guns?". Me .... thinking/hearing "are you carrying any guns?", says "no". The agent takes a double take, and says pretty firmly "you mean you dont own any guns?" (I suppose the US and Canada share registration information ..... but that is a different discussion). The actual wording finally gets through my thick skull, and I say "oh .... you mean *own* any .... not currently carrying any. Yes I own one .... but it is back home in a safe, not here". Then he asks "what kind is it?" ...... So, me being the nerdy engineer that I am, start in on a detailed description of the thing, including that it is based on the 1911 mechanism, that, as an engineer, I think is a really cool mechanism to understand and maintain (I suppose I gave *much* more detail than most people give him). As I go on, he relaxes, and leans back listening and smiling. When I finally finish, he waves me on with a "have a nice visit".....
