Elusive Schrades

Charlie, I can't keep up with you but I try my best. Fine schrades you have as always.

I have posted this elsewhere but not here I believe. The 856 and cut variants eluded me for a long time then all of the sudden I had a nice little group of them. I can't get enough of these, much like candy, but I like these better than candy.

Beautiful equal ends guys. Charlie those jacks, what a selection! I just recently heard someone refer to these as watermelon knives due to their shape, never heard that one before! Here's a little variant. Forgive me if I've shown it before, I can't remember what I did yesterday let alone months ago lol:

I missed this one!!! What a beauty, C-Dog!!
And the great texture you achieve in your photos makes viewing that nice pen even more enjoyable!!:)
Thanks for your efforts, and congratulations on finding a great brand of knives!!
Thank you Charlie for the kind words. It’s because of you and the other knowledgeable members that brought these classic beauties to my attention.

I call that "watermelon" a picnic knife!! Great one Eric!! Same length at 3 5/8" right?
(Eric, don't forget to post your HJ in the HJ thread! I can't copy your pics for some reason!!)

Wow- absolutely Stunning Knives gents.
I know that a Watermelon Knife is the same type of knife as the Sausage tester - yes both are Equal Enders but very very slim and very long like a stretch limo version of a Pen Knife.

Thanks Paul!

Duncan I'm familiar with those knives, also known as melon testers. I've actually got several boxes of the old hot stamps that Schrade used on the handles. Here are a couple, a bit hard to read since they're done in reverse. I included a front view so you can see how steeply those letters were cut:

Although an Ulster Knife by name, this junior cattle knife is identical to Paul's 856 above, and was maybe made by Schrade Cut Co.

They're close enough that I keep an ulster like that in my schrade roll right next to my 856's. It fits right in.

Nice collection, and also "evolution", of slim stockmen, Jeff!!
A great, educational way to display them, with time frames and model numbers!!
Thanks Paul!
