Try jujitsu for great cardio and mad skills.

Congrats on your weight loss. I consume as many calories as I can but 4 minutes rolling with someone else will beat your heart more than the entire time of running alone

Yeah, I get you. In the past year, I bought a good quality gi and thought I might try to find a dojo. Main reason I haven't? Egos. In my past experience visiting other dojos, going to clinics, and participating in tournaments, too many instructors have had ten-story egos. Kind of like that asshole in the Karate Kid movie. My sensei was mentor and father-figure more than drill instructor. He studied eastern philosophies and practiced eastern ways in his daily life, and in the time I knew him, I saw his art grow fivefold. In other words, he walked the path with his students. Anyway, with this latest lifestyle change, I really would like to start training again and may take up the search for a school.

That's really awesome guyon but yes, sadly there tends to be a lot of ego in karate arts, try other Japanese arts, they tend to be much less egotistic as the entire point is not in your own strength.

Sorry to hear about your aikido experience TM, that's sad, I also am an Aikidoka and have the total opposite experience, my Sensie is a real soft spoken, long haired hippie kinda guy that probably couldn't hurt a fly in real life but is completely devoted to the art and gentleness that comes along with it. That's the way Ō Sensei intended it, it's the art of peace; otherwise we'd all be practicing ditto-ryu.

Try Judo Guyon, in my experience as a Judoka there tends to be no prescence of ego or attitude at all. The students who can't get with the program don't last very long. You can't have Judo without Kano's principle of mutual welfare.

You can find lots of attitude in some BJJ crowds but general won't be found in any Judo club or to a lesser extent any Japanese Jujitsu and Aikido, though it shouldn't be there.

Admittedly, you can find lots of snobbery in japanese sword arts and you shouldn't attempt to study them if that's not something you're prepared to deal with.

You can find some degree of looking down on karates as a peasant or savage and lesser art in the truly Japanese ju arts (karate being okinowan) but that's hold over from animosity between the Japanese and Okinowans and shouldn't really belong in the mindset if the art.

We are all guilty of it to some degree myself included, but most modern guys are just as respectful of it as any other art that holds value. With me for example, taekwondo. I hold a particular kind of taekwondo , real honest hard combat taekwondo; but there's z certain brand of taekwondo(the most easily found brand) that makes me sick.

Go find a Japanese oriented dojo and good luck in hunting! :)

When all else fails Judo is usually solid and respectful and as good for growth as anything else you will find.

Two cool little blades:

I've seen those Candirus. I have yet to actually get one though. How do you like it? Is that like a two finger blade for you?

I like it a lot. I can get a bout 2 1/2 fingers in it. It's actually very comfortable.

Entertaining the thought of selling my clipped 2. Not sure if I can make myself do it or not though, haha. :D Have had many offers for it over the months. I never use it, not to mention it looks a little more "threatening" that the stock 2, and I'm more of a drop point kinda guy anywhos. I'm checking it out right now. Damn, decisions, decisions.....

so I got this "little bit of nothing" as an extra in my box of cookies -- in addition to a gallon of cookies and a handwritten note from Mrs Dubs, there was an empty bottle, a Brit mil surp bag, and a Kabar box............ with a brand new 1217 in it.
Thanks Dubs!

It is cool, but can you imagine coming across someone in the woods carrying that thing, with the military looking sheath too? :D

If anyone is looking for a good IWB or pocket carry holster, I can't say enough good things about these Remora holsters.
Robert, whom some of you met at the last Gathering, turned me onto them.
This one is a leather-lined version I got for pocket carry. I also have a version with their "Sweat Shield" inbound for IWB.
This material does not move when tucked in against the skin. It's grippy as all get out, and I even jogged with this holster IWB for about 50 yards tonight. It stayed put.

You have any of the lasers on it? I have one with the Lasermax and it is great for CCW. However for anything over 7-10 yards, it is a BITCH to get a tight group.

great gun. more accurate than i would have thought.

not as good as a 5 inch barrel, but wow, good.

grip is very aggressive, chews up the hand.

stopped at an antique shop today - they had a "high base" Griswold waffle iron that I suspect used to belong to "Iron Mike" as it was missing an ear...
thanks to the $110 price tag, it's still there.
