Emerson A100 Blade Play

I remember a knife I once owned doing that. Seems like it was a knock off someone gifted me. It did feel cheap.
I purchased from a reputable dealer and the knife feels nice and not cheap, but then again I have never had another Emerson so I am comparing it to other knives I own. Maybe I will send it to Emerson or just return it to the dealer.

Not play along the 'A arc' but along the 'B axis'. Like Matthew said it's from slop between the pivot and pivot hole in the blade (dramatized in the drawing for clarity) or even slop between pivot and pivot hole in the handle(s). I don't think it's a problem at all since when the knife is locked it goes away. Basically all my knives do this. There has to be some clearance so they can put it together.

*obviously there would be no movement along the B axis in the drawing because of the lock but you get the point*

Yeah I am probably being too fussy, once its locked up its solid and I guess that's where it counts. Overall I like the knife, it feels great in the hand and I am interested to use the chisel edge. I not sure if I will return it or not but if I did I would definitely get another one, so if the consensus is that its normal for Emersons (which it seems to be) than I will just keep this one. Thanks for your input.

I am also not being a jerk, but if the knife has no play when fully open, why would you think this is a problem??
If there was absolutely no play when open half way, how could they possibly assemble it?? There needs to be a tiny bit of 'room' to put it together.
If you send it in, Emerson would send it back in the same shape.
I play when open??? Enjoy your new knife and go cut some stuff!

Both Sebenzas I've owned did this, albeit the amount of movement was quite small. I've seen it on other knives as well, and when I've noticed it I've found it odd. It's the kind of minor thing I've noticed and then forgotten about and noticed again.

It's weird, but as the knives all showed no play when locked open, it didn't seem like anything to worry about.

As with others, I've noticed this on an Emerson or two and even the Sebenza I'm carrying today. I wouldn't worry about it.

However, the Emerson Horseman I had had this same slight play except it was while in the closed position. IIRC, the play, while not major, was just enough so that the very tip of the blade would ever so slightly reach above the scales. I think if this were the case it'd be cause for concern.

I always assumed that this was a detent issue rather than a pivot issue. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

I had the same thing happen on a Benchmade Valet, although I think this was in addition to vertical blade play.
