Ok I’m about ready for another Emerson folder. I am looking for a balanced utility-weapon folder for everyday carry. I have heard nothing but good things about the CQC 7, and had the opportunities to handle a few CQC-6 that belong to some friends. The only thing I did not like about the CQC-6 is the pointed end of the handle; it makes the inverted edger grip uncomfortable, but other than that WOW.

I think the 7`s handle shape is better. I’m looking at the CQC-7BW model.
So any one have any experience with this knife, may be talk me out it?
Stay safe out there.

If you want to use it for anything other than self defense or offense, its a fairly crappy knife...it is a very purposed design, Emerson's liner lock, from my experience, is one of the worst of the major manufacturers

ig go cqc 8 or horseman i've got the 7, 8 , commander and prefer the 8 best emerson knife well that and the super commander the 7 is my least favorite, good knife , but my least favorite knife from my favorite knife company ;)

Some of the utility tasks I may use the knife for are opening boxes, letters, cutting clothing of someone in an emergency, seat belt, etc. I’m not going to cut down a tree with it or use it to pray open a steel door or anything like that.

I would go with either a cqc13, one of my favorite knives, or the psark. While the cqc7 is more iconic these models or the cqc8 would serve you better. Nice points on all of them and plenty of belly for working.

If I wanted a tanto emerson I'd get a roadhouse or 15. The 15 is the tanto commander right?

I ever had negative opinion on EKI also, but they has been improve ALOT on recently production as 2011/2012, thicker liner, better FF/QC, better pivot etc.

what he said +1!
cqc-8, cqc-10, cqc-13 or cqc-15 are much better options imho.

I have got cqc-8 and like it. If I choose again: would take it again over cqc-7.

The 7 is not my all time favorite Emerson but I will tell you if it was my only one I would never feel disadvantaged. The cqc-7 is true Emerson and I love mine. No disappointments.

I'd go with a mini 15 for that type of use.

I love my mini commander for its recurve, loved the 7 I handled (and typically like tantos for ease of sharpening), combining the two features is a great idea.

Great information so far. One of the things I like about it is the size, it's just enough for it to be effective for its application as a weapon, and it's going to be a learning experience for me on how a tanto shape performs.

Thanks for that comparison shot with the Persian, that really helps. I'm still undecided, so many options so little money.

I love having you guys help me out on this, thanks.

Give the 15 a good look and then look again. I think it would fit both the duties and personality of a man such as yourself. It is also one of the most comfortable Emersons that I own.

Hey ed, I think i have a bit of a handle on your style mainly because you seem to share alot of ideas with me, and I have to say that I think the greatest folder Mr Emerson has come out with is the cqc-8. Also known as the bannana knife it is just an ergonomic masterpiece. If there is a way that you can handle one you will see what i mean when I say that the knife was born for reverse grip edge out. Just fits like a glove. The knife also performs quite handily in the inverted edge in grip, truly its a one of a kind knife. I'm sorry that I don't have pics of it in hand, but Believe me when I say that if I could only own one Emerson it would be the 8.

I have a cqc 7v and I carry it from time to time. I love the handle, it fits great anyway you hold it.
I also like the blade. The straight long part is like having a wharncliff blade. Which is great for slicing open tape on boxes or anything like that.
It may not be the very best utility shape ever. I enjoy carrying it because using it takes a little bit extra attention because you have to fight it a little to try and get straight cuts, it is entertaining.

I also like the way the cuts look when I am done. They have a little bit of a crooked/twisted appearance.

My favorite emerson, out of about ten that I have is the mini commander for what it is worth.

If ya want something that is a 7 but bigger go for a Super 7 pe or pse. I've both and actually prefer the pse for some odd reason. It is about the only knife that is pse that I really like. Everything about the super is bigger and better. I would say next the 13 or 11 if you can find one reasonable enough. Then maybe the Super 8. But the Super 7 is what your looking for, better grip ergos, bigger longer and wider blade and super comfortable. keepem sharp

I'd take 15. Great EDC blade and handle ( better than 7 ) and it's far easier to open with the thumb disc than 7.
