Emerson CQC-7 ?

Some of the utility tasks I may use the knife for are opening boxes, letters, cutting clothing of someone in an emergency, seat belt, etc. I’m not going to cut down a tree with it or use it to pray open a steel door or anything like that.

Yes. And what he was trying to tell you is that the blade shape it terrible for all of those tasks. It only excels in self defense/offense.

Had an waved Emerson Commander-I would open in my front bdu pockets while jogging, company promptly replaced it with a waveless commander at my request. new model did same.
Told Ernest Emerson about it at the Atlanta blade show (couple of years ago)
his reply.... ''Don't run with it!' so much for their hi-speed special ops gear.I traded it off within 15 minutes.
My tacticool folders are the ZT350 and ZT 302.(Prior to the blow-off at the bladeshow I was an Emerson fan- Had a CQC-7,Raven , and Commander.

Love my CQC7v, i was recently at Plaza to check out the Roadhouse (havent pulled the trigger on it yet but i may soon), i think all the CQC7v's are long gone. I didnt really care for the chisel ground blades when i first looked at the CQC7 but when i saw these with the V grind (not to be confused with the chisel edge as all Emersons have), i had to have it. Glad i picked it up while they lasted... Edwood you may want to check Plaza's web site for their current Emerson inventory, or not, i'm sure you'll enjoy seeing the newly remodeled store either way.

My Emerson 7a is probably my most used knife! Mine is the spear point blade shape with the v grind. Fit and finish are not perfect, but the knife WORKS. I personally really like 154 steel, and the chisel edge is easy to sharpen. I have had it for 8 years, and the lock has worked its way about half way across, but it is still solid and play free. I am going to get another one soon and retire the older one to glovebox duty

had the cqc 7....loved it....have the super commander...it is retired to fishing gear...i am wanting the roadhouse now...i love the way it feels in my hand

If you want to use it for anything other than self defense or offense, its a fairly crappy knife...it is a very purposed design, Emerson's liner lock, from my experience, is one of the worst of the major manufacturers

Only lock problem I ever had was with a Raven; returned it to EKI and it was repaired w/out charge. As far as "crappy" goes, would you care to explain?

Something about it that begs to be carried. I have the 7B. I'd get a waved model but I normally put my thumb up on the spine of the blade (big hands). Think the wave would hinder that grip for me. Do have my eyes on a 7A, though. It will be a while before I buy another one but its on the list.

Ok I’m about ready for another Emerson folder. I am looking for a balanced utility-weapon folder for everyday carry. I have heard nothing but good things about the CQC 7, and had the opportunities to handle a few CQC-6 that belong to some friends. The only thing I did not like about the CQC-6 is the pointed end of the handle; it makes the inverted edger grip uncomfortable, but other than that WOW.

I think the 7`s handle shape is better. I’m looking at the CQC-7BW model.
So any one have any experience with this knife, may be talk me out it?
Stay safe out there.

I love my cqc -7aw for edc, Ive never used a tano blade though just never found them, that attractive.

I had a CQC7 (made by Benchmade) from the 1st production run when I went through my not-brief-enough "tactical" knife phase many years ago. The ergos were crude, boxy and uncomfortable; the blade became wobbly unless the pivot was over-tightened; it had a very late lockup (the locking liner ended up pegged against the opposite liner in short order); two of the three clip screws fell out and the gimmicky and relatively useless blade profile was chisel-ground on the wrong side for a right-handed user (visually indexing a cut with anything approaching precision was out of the question). It was very cheaply finished, prone to edge chipping and just dog ugly. Most disappointing hype-driven knife I've ever purchased.

Unfortunately I agree with the highlighted sections above.

I may be a little old school, but I still love my cqc-7. I may have moved on to newer sexier blades, but I still like to pull it out and carry it from time to time. I've logged a lot of miles with that one -

LOL my Emerson CQC7 is a great knife I have had it for 2 years and i have used it ALOT . Have you ever own and seriously used an Emerson? I know people that don't like Emerson but I have never heard someone call them crappy.

I'm willing to make a fixed blade in trade for a 7.

Do any of you guys own a super CQC 7? I was at plaza cutlery las month and fondled almost every version of the 7. The super 7 really called to me. I did not pull the trigger, I'm still on the bench.

I do not, but I do like how its roughly the size of a CQC8. The Super 7 seems to have much more in common with the rest of the Emerson line in terms of size and price. The normal 7 could pass as a mini in comparison. I need to get my hands on one eventually.

I gotta say, I carry my 7 for "serious" work.
For everyday utility work, I carry my Para.

I have a Super CQC7, it has the same blade length of 15, the handle it's with ~10 mm longer ( than 15 ) and pretty wide ( 32 mm at the midle ). I'd say that I like more 15 than Super 7.
