Emerson Knives

Ernest knows how to design a knife. He makes a tool(s) designed to cut and pierce and the 154CM steel he uses is an excellent steel especially the way EKI heat treats it. I love the Emerson knife and never had any problems. And, I own a few.

The blade is almost 3.75 on the 0620cf if I am not mistaken. Heavy is something that varies from person to person, for me it isn't heavy at all.

The term "tactical" and folder always make me chuckle. Just like "hard use" folder. Any item can be used tactically including rocks, pencils, chairs, tooth brushes and so on.

Many emersons fall well below 3.5 inches.. Although the super varients are longer bladed and the iron dragon i had was 3.75 if im not mistaken.

The emerson cqc-15 (the one I look at) is about 4 inches, benchmade adamas is 3.82 inches, the zt 0620 is 3.6 inches, which isn't bad... but you want all the knife you can get. I carry/edc the ZT 0301, but idk... Just feels like the ZT 0620 doesn't offer anything for the weight.

Military guys don't rely on tactical folders lol tactical folders is what civilians think seal team 6 uses instead of rifles, pistols, explosives, tomahawks, fixed blades and so on.

Take a look at rmj hawks, there is a video showing their hawk that busted a hole in a concrete wall to get soldiers to safety. Will a folder survive that task? Hell no.

And the hawk was in perfectly usable condition afterward. "Hard use" a folder more than a hand full of times and see how long it lasts.

Font buy into marketing tactics, take a step back and really think about tactical folders....

btw, Ernest stated that they sell every knife they make. Pretty impressive.

I am unsure if you are referring to my comment about PD but the police force I was referring to that was doing the testing is a rather large police force, thousands of police officers. The military often provides knives, but they don't force anybody to use a specific knife especially folding knives. How many serious people do you know :P ?

When I was flying in the Navy I worked with EOD and SEALs enough to have a good idea where and how their equipment was purchased or created. It was a fun topic while waiting for chutes to be repacked or whatever.

On the other hand, hanging out on firearms boards where a lot of cops do makes it pretty clear that the acquisition of "stuff" is political and monetary. I don't know why a police agency felt the need to "issue" a pocket knife, or where they got their testing protocols from, since the military has never created a testing regimen for folding knives.

I'm not saying Emerson knives are good or bad. I just don't see what Ontario police know about knives that should make them experts.

How much did the Emersons cost the PD? Who initiated the purchase? Was anyone involved a previous Emerson owner/fan? What other brands were tested? What sort of in-field use or failures could these knives see, and what is the reporting system?

When a PD issues a new gun, and the gun has a bunch of problems this goes out on the Telex and the manufacturer fixes the problem with a recall or armorer visit. That isn't going to happen with a pocketknife.

Due to my job(s), I have thought extensively about tactical folders. In CQC knives are not THAT uncommon to be used, and a lot of guys in urban CQC don't carry large fixed blades as speed and trim is key. Tactical folders may not be always the first choice, but they are there when the worse situations unfold which is why they are important. I know of guys who these "tactical folders" have saved their lives in different ways.

What the 0620 has is an ambidextrous clip and a damn well designed and executed frame lock with a wave.

I'm a forward waver, so that limits me to knives that I can pit the clip on either side. Emerson charges 25.00 to make the knife ambidextrous and you have to buy it directly from them at their high costs. No thanks.

Oh and the 0620cf rocks m390.. Another huge plus. I've been using mine for over a year..

What knife company doesn't sell what they made? It isn't like there isn't 20 distributors that have large stocks of Emersons in stock to buy today.

It is a variant with the "Sark" model so, mainly for first responding and emergency self defence. They are not using actual testing, more like providing some training and giving the knives to officers to see how they preform in the daily use by police officers. Now, I don't know much about the "uppers" in the OPP, as I am not in the police.

My battalion wasn't issued a folder in 2010 for deployment, was yours? If you want to believe folders are out there saving the day in war be my guest.

Many guys who go in harms way carry fixed blades when a knife is necessary, some carry fixed blades at home as well. If you chose to rely on a folding knife that's your choice, for me I like fixed blades for hard use.

The fixed blade edc thread has TONS of blades people carry every day.

Oh we did get issued a Gerber mp600 multi tool.. Still got that sucker.

That knife does look like a beaut with what you have done with it XD I will give you that :P

RX- I do not know the answer to your question but EKI just had it's best year ever. This year looks promising again too.

Thanks I do like it, I still carry it occasionally when I can't bring a fixed blade. But I know its limitations and it won't replace a fixed blade. Folders have their place.

I don't think they are to save the day necessarily. Depending on your mission, they can be very helpful is all I am saying. They are just a useful tool that takes up no space so I see no reason why not to have one on you. It is always good to have multiple layers/tools at your disposal. I hope you understand what I mean.

If there was no testing and no reporting requirements, why should ANYONE care what the Canucks have in their pockets? It's meaningless. They probably have polyester pants, too, but that doesn't mean polyester is the best pants material available.

I get you, and honestly I carried a folder I personally bought it was a cold steel recon 1 I purchased in the PX.

I'm all for having back ups and redundancy.

That's great, but it doesn't mean that selling what you have for sale is meaningful. I've sold every knife I've ever offered for sale.

Smart choice sir. Honestly, Sometimes I feel I over think my gear haha. We all know the differences are very small, but maybe sometimes that is all that matters.

Canucks? What? Also, my point was just simply that they have a good reputation enough that large organizations trust them with their life. Was just an example to prove a point sir.

What is your job? You've said you're a university student previously and then who could forget this.

For me, the strider would be a combat blade. Something that I would always have strapped to my leg in a combat situation. ATM, for me that is a ZT 0560BW, I looked at the zt 0301 but it seemed to heavy, so then I looked at the strider. Only thing is, they are kinda expensive so I would hate if I lost it XD
