I am debating whether or not to get an emerson folder, I've heard some good things about them and I checked out their website and it seems to me that they stand behind their product 100%. Does any one have any experience with emerson knives or customer service. Also does anyone know of any good (good meaning detailed) reviews of some emerson production knives?

My limited experience with Emerson Customer Service has been very positive. Had bought several used folders and decided I needed new washers for them. Emerson very quickly ( under a week) sent me two sets of washers - when i e-mailed them that I could use one more set - it arrived within 5 days of the request.
The liner locks I have from them are very well executed - straightforward knives. For me - the only negative was the Wave - which simply didn't work with my carry mode - but fortunately is easily removed. I would try the Wave out before buying one of their knives with this feature - there certainly are plenty of folks who like this feature and carry waved knives daily.

I have 3 Emersons, sent one back for a slight tweeking of the liner lock, like others, got it back in a week. I bought a t-shirt, ordered wrong size sent it back with a check to cover return postage, they sent me back the shirt I shoulda ordered and they sent back my check uncashed with a note wishing me merry christmas. I have met Mr. Emerson on two occasions, he is a superb gentleman, and a wonderful knife maker. I have Striders, a Hinderer, and a Sebenza, but the Emerson's are my daily carry. Great knives from a great company. Enjoy your Emerson, go for it.

Really you can't go wrong. I use Emerson knives as my work knives day in and day out. They always act as i need them too. I have actually lost more than one I'm ashamed to say, but I also promptly bought another one to replace it.

:D Thanks for the replies, I was actually looking for some shirts for Christmas and discovered the emerson brand apparel and decided to look into their knives a little bit more. Then I discovered what I was missing, I think I had tunnel vision and was brand fixed is the reason I never really looked into them. Oh well I should have enough after the holiday season to get me one.

i have 2 emersons, and while they are great knives the two that i have both dont open very smoothly, are emersons typically like that or did i just happen to order 2 that didnt open smoothly?

Heh, dunno man, I have one that is so tight I can hardly open it with 2 hands, and generally just hook it on my pocket lining and pull it open just enough to get a decent hold on the blade.

Guess i could loosen the pivot points, but the blade doesnt seem to even have a detent, so not sure how safe that'd be...

You ever try cleaning and lubricating it? That usually helps if you can't/don't want to loosen the pivot screw.

Been like this from the day I received it from the shop, application of Miltec etc did nothing.

I may have just got a dodgy one.

mine may need some lube, but after loosening the pivot screw it didnt really help much. i like them a lot, but for their price i kinda woulda liked them to open smoother. the ones i have dont open anywhere near as smooth as my benchmade axis locks or my spydercos. i cleaned out my emerson snubby and it got a little better, but still nowhere near as good as my other knives. and my emerson mini cqc7 was pretty tight even when the pivot screw loosened till the point were it would give the knife play. ill try and get some lube for them soon.

do you other guys have smooth opening ones?

Ernie Emerson is one of the nicest people I've ever met. Great guy, Great product. I've owned several of his customs/factory knives and they are great. Hope this helps. Good luck. Aaron

I have 5 Emerson folders, and one Emerson fixed blade. All are used hard and all are scary sharp. At first the edge bevel threw me off a bit when slicing/cutting but i have grown to love it. Bomb proof solid knives, great company, and a great Owner and Staff.

for the record i dont work for Emerson, i'm just a happy customer who plans to own more emersons.

I EDC my CQC-14 Stubby about 80% of the time and cut everything imaginable with it.. Solid piece of kit..

i haven't posted this story in a while, so here goes:

at the 2006 plaza cutlery show, i was hoping to get an eki custom, so was hanging around his table.

i started talking with ernie about the classes he offers, as an officer i had met from northern ca had spoken very highly of the knife defense class.

ernie spoke with me for about 30 minutes, and never once implied he had work to do or was too busy. he answered all my questions, and was very engaging otherwise in conversation. i was treated like i was the only one in the room.

i didn't get a custom from the lottery, but he made a customer for life on that day.

i have owned many, still have 6-7 folders i use with semi-regularity.

ive also been to the factory in torrance, ca once. they had forgotten to put in a small item in a shipment to me. i was in the area anyway, so called and let them know i would be picking up the missing item in person. for my troubles, i received a free t shirt from the new clothing line.

and mary emerson is also top notch.

Three things-

A. If you purchased your Emerson off Evilbay, there is a good chance you may have a fake. They get quite a bit of discussion in the emerson forum. Check in there to check if you were burned.

B. An Emerson has a "break in" period, you cannot carry it twice a month in your rotation and expect it to smooth out. USE the damn thing.

C. Don't just bitch about it, if you believe it has a problem send it in. They will take care of you. Ernie's reputation is beyond reproach and their customer service is outstanding.
Unless you have a fair amount of experience working on liner lock knives- Do Not Try Monkeying Around With It Yourself.

I pretty much edc a 7a or b model. I own many others but for some reason the 7 series pretty much floats my boat. Have used there customer service once and had my knife back within 2 wks of being sent which is pretty good. Are there better knives out there being made? Sure there are but none have better handle ergo's for me. I also don't have a problem with keeping them sharp. keepem sharp

I EDC my CQC-13 everyday and I have grown to love this beast of a folder.Mine opens smooth as glass and locks up tight.I found that I simply adjust the pivot till the blade is centered in the handle and that is where it works best.

Almost all of the good things have been said in this thread already, just wanted to say that the Commander is a wonderful knife.
