I'm in the market for a tactical/EDC folder.

Narrowed it down to: 710 or Mini CQC-15

Can get both for about $100

Don't care for Spyderco...

Any thoughts?

I have no desire to own an Emerson. I'm sure they are fine knives but I don't like the look or the liner locks.

I would definitely go with the 710. Might want to check out the 950 while you are looking.

I'd personally go with the 710, but it is just personal preference. You can't really go wrong with either. Benchmade and Emerson are both solid.

950 is too fat in my pocket

what don't you like about the liner locks on the emerson's?

I carry a cqc10 about 50% of the time. It's one of the strongest liner locks I own. About the only other I trust not to fail is my sypderco millie. I've killed a bunch of liner lock knives but not my emerson with it's ti liner. The wave feature is also handy and I like the checkering on the g10 scales. That being said I like the benchmade axis locks alot as well. I guess it depends on what your really going to do with it.

I've only owned the 710 and it's a solid knife. I dig the looks of the CQC15, but have never held/owned one before. I do have an Emerson SOCFK on the way.

I definitely like the "wave" feature for the tactical role. A knife fully deployed out of the pocket sounds better under stress than having to fumble with the thumb studs of the 710.

I played with a 710 today and the axis lock is so cool for edc but the wave is for sure better tactical.... I kinda like the emerson because it's a "knife person's" blade. Harder to find and not everybody has one. The negative is really only the thicker handle. the 710 is sexy and thin, better edc (which it will be used for 99.9999999999999999999% of the time)

the 710 is one of bm longest running knives in production kinda like the spy mill it ain't going nowhere try the 710...

I have 3 Emmersons (A100/CQC7A/SARK), fit and finish is pretty poor for the price of these, and being made in the US where higher quality is expected. The titanium liners are not conistant thickness on any of mine, and using titanium this thin is pointless anyway IMHO.
BM is one of my favorite production companies...never been dissapointed with any of them, but I do think they are a bit overpriced for what you get, though $100 for the 710 sounds like a good buy.

yea.. 98 out the door brand new

the mini 15 will be 110 and like new but preowned so no warranty

with everybody it's either "emerson to the grave" or "never again" = confused

Bought a CQC14 new from an Emerson dealer. Within 1.5 months its liner lock started failing. I never abuse my knives and it wasn't used harder than any of my other knives. They are touted to be "the #1 hard use knives in the world" though. After two trips back to Emerson the liner lock still fails easily. Fool me once.... I'm not big on Benchmades but every BM I've owned or own is still working fine.

i think the quality issues associated with emerson is pushing me towards benchmade....

I hate to say it but the Paramilitary 2 looks pretty sweet too... just looking at it closely for the first time
