Emerson or Benchmade?

hell man,you are going to have to make up your mind, you said don't care for spyderco..

I know... mostly because they are foreign made... but s30v is us steel no?

crap... i've got to pull the trigger on something soon because... gasp... I have NO knife at the moment... lost my leek last week. :(

I wasn't a big Spyderco fan but have come to own a Paramilitary 2 and a Spyderhawk. Before you go buying any knife try to actually handle it first. I've often been surprised by knives I thought would fit my hands and/or be comfortable only to find they weren't. Nowadays I try to handle a knife before buying it.

wish the emerson quality was better because i really love the wave and Tant-Com blade shape

i think the quality issues associated with emerson is pushing me towards benchmade....

I hate to say it but the Paramilitary 2 looks pretty sweet too... just looking at it closely for the first time

Hmmm...sounds like a lost soul already. ;)

Emerson make a fine knife. I have six of them and have never had a speck of trouble and their customer service is like a family (well, it is a family). The CQC-15 is one of my favorite knife designs. If you ever had to pull one in anger, the glint off the multi-faceted blade would probably cause anyone to reconsider.

The Benchmade 710 uses exceptionally thick steel liners. It is a slender, smooth, tank of a knife with one of the most trustworthy locks around. I like it...a lot.

If you are looking for a good multi-purpose knife, the Spyderco Military and Para-Military should be on your short list. These knives have been refined over the years to a state of 'functional art'.

Anyway, that is just my opinion.

if you had none of them and could only buy one, which would it be and why

I'd have hard time making up my mind and I would have to take these criteria into account. In no particular order.

1. Ease of carry.
2. Robustness of overall package(lock, handle, blade)
3. Ease of sharpening
4. Legality(around the areas I'm often in)
5. Purpose( what I anticipate it's tasks will be)

Some Spydercos are made in other countries but many are made in Golden Colorado. I just got my Paramilitary 2 today and it even is nice enough to clarify that it comes from "Golden Colorado, USA, Earth" just in case you thought they were tricksy and making them on Mars. I'm sure the Military, Paramilitary and Manix are all made in the USA and there are probably others :D.

lol I am having a hard time....

sheesh... you would think that buying a new knife would be fun... it's kind of exhausting

If you like the wave you can always ghetto wave a spydie like this manix 2.

ok that is enough points against the emerson... when 50 people say the same thing i'd be asking for it to buy one... maybe someday but not now.

so now it's down to 710 or paramilitary 2..... D2 vs S30V.... Axis lock vs compression... 3.9" vs 3 7/16"....

sigh... getting closer... wish the benchmade was tip up carry capable.

or is it? can you carry the 710 tip up?

edit: if so that seals it and i'm getting a 710 for 98 bucks out the door tomorrow.

I'm not sure, I don't have one but I think the axis lock prevents a clip from being mounted near the pivot. So I guess it's tip up only.

me too and it's mine as of 8am tomorrow.... thanks for the help guys

they should make the thumb stud interchangeable with a wave hook stud option
