Emerson Sheepdog

The only time I wave my Emersons is when I'm practicing the technique (very rarely) just to see if I can do it. I use the thumb disk or blade hole in "real life". Given the dexterity issues I'm having with my hands, pushing a flipper with my index finger is often easier that rotating my thumb on a disk or thumb stud.

Why a Flipper? I believe it was made for Colonel David Grossman. It was what he wanted in a knife. I could be wrong but I will double check that. I've held this model and flipped it a few times. The action is great! I can't say just yet how but Ernie had a trick up his sleeve. It's smoother than smooth.

A crisp/strongish detent is very important for a reliable "flipping action". The blade needs to let a bit of resistance build before "firing".

This model will have more options for opening than any folder out there. As long as the options do not interfere with each other, that seems like a good thing!
I am not a big fan of flippers myself, so that does not drive my opinion of this model, but I sure do like that I can both wave or thumb open my Emersons!

Maybe it will eventually go the way of the 7 and the etak, and a and b blade.

Could happen.:D

Wow that is nice looking. That is also my favorite blade shape by far. Is that a bowie style almost? If they remove the wave and make the blade spine flush with the handle. Replace the washers with PB. And perhaps give the knife a detent much stronger than the normal. It should work fine and I will buy one. I could not deal with the wave/ disk/ flipper options all together though.
But this could be my first ever emerson later in the year.

That thing seriously looks slick! I never thought I would see a full on Emerson flipper.

I would prefer the grip shape of an A-100 or a Six/Five for a flipper, since the "flipper" acts as a finger guard itself. I've long wanted a flipper and wave in the same knife though. Frankly, a waved 7 with a flipper would be epic.

I agree. I'd love a waved flipper 7:thumbup:

Love it, not so much to use the flipper to flip but as a hand gaurd for added security , I'll take 2

Looks great, love the CQC-45 design but I dont see the need for a flipper. Isn't the wave already a flipper, kind of?
