Emerson...What's the big deal?

Your point is so complex, I don't think it makes sense to anyone. If you actually have something to contribute here aside from trying to be clever, please go right ahead. People visit the forums for various reasons some to learn, discuss, and at times antagonize. Join the discussion as a member, leave the moderating to me, does that makes enough sense? Given your history, you should leave well enough alone.

Well to make things simple my reply that you say you could not understand was to make people think. Or get the thought process working.

Why does this remind me of someone beating their own head against a brick wall?

Personally I always thought the prices were way too high for what you're getting. I mean g10 liner lock for almost $300. No way

Still to high IMO. Kai makes knives right here in the USA of superior materials and sells it at almost half the price.... hd7 framelock for example 400.00$ or more, zt has several framelocks using g10 ,ti and elmax for HALF THE PRICE made in the USA..

I think double the price or more without any real justification in materiels is greed. Plain and simple. You like them and will pay what ever they want good for you other people disagree.
there are plenty of popular models like the mini commander, cqc7 and horseman being offered by dealers for around $150 shipped.

- Emerson doesn't have the volume or production capabilities of KAI. That's a pretty simple cost justification.

I think same goes as $350 Winkler stock removal fixed blade which made from carbon steel and recycled rubble with even worse f&f than any knife mentioned in this thread.

While they may not have kai volumes I disagree that it justifies more than double the cost. Emerson isn't a single person building knives like some of the makers here on bladeforums that make titanium framelocks with perfect fit and finish with premium steel for the price of the hd7.

Have you owned a Winkler? The belt knife in my photo is made in relatively small quantities by a master bladesmith with 30 plus years of perfecting heat treating and knowledge. The belt knife is fully tapered exposed tang with perfect balance and ergos. The knife can literally bend 90 degrees without breakage. The fit and finish on my Winkler was exceptional.

Daniel Winkler will replace or fix ANY issues with his knives. Pick up the phone and call him... Daniel might pick up the phone him self if he doesn't ask for him and tell him your problem.

I have handled my friend Winkler's belt knife for many time.. we both agreed that the knife has poor fit and finish, uneven edge and ricasso, much thicker than expected behind edge thickness.

Here is his pics of the blade.

Mine was in black micarta as seen in the photo, Winklers are made in as high performance cutters largely for military guys. My fit and finish was exceptional but more importantly the heat treat and balance was spot on. 80crv2 with Daniels 30 years of heat treat knowledge is worth every cent.

If your friend had a problem with the knife why not contact Daniel? I've spoken with him and hell make any issues right. Crap happens so contact Daniel or sell the knife, oh wait its not even your knife lol

And if your friend didn't like the knife why didn't he return it? Instead he kept it so you guys could enjoy the terrible fit and finish? Cool story

I was aching for a Super Commander, and a local guy had them in stock. Upon handling the SC in person I was like.......that's it? Totally unimpressed. I actually left the store with a ZT 0200.

My friend actually like the knife even though its doesn't has the best fit and finish. I don't think returning the knife to change for a better one would be a good option since the cost of shipping from here to US is $60 plus the same cost and tax on shipping back.

Take this with a grain of salt.
Read carefully to understand exactly what i am conveying. There is no bashing here.
Here goes.

I think they are awesome. They represent my earliest taste of the world of quality knives and grail lust. I have a sentimental attachment from a long time ago. Most of the Emerson guys, like Lycosa, are really the nicest, coolest people you could know, even the odd birds.

However, the knives currently sit number one on my Poop List. The reason being that i was so incredibly disappointed in something i had regarded so highly.

My PERSONAL experience all the way around has left an extremely bad taste. It doesn't need to be elaborated here, and i dont feel like rehashing it anyway.

The problem is that my PERSONAL experience coincides with a ridiculously high rate of COMMON public complaints. This makes it hard for me to write it off as bad luck.

Every company can make a lemon, but I have never seen such a CONSISTENTLY HIGH PERCENTAGE of reports anywhere else. EKI is KNOWN for being controversial in this regard. And i dont know of any other companies where an "owner's guide" is necessary to fix issues straight out of the box. Seriously, there is a sticky in the subforum. And a new post almost daily from a concerned newb. I cant ignore these things. Ive tried. And was severely let down.

Yes, i am biased and bitter, and i freely admit it. There are many Emerson fans who claim to have never had problems, and I'm honestly very envious. I am still desperately searching for any excuse to get another one. Irrational, i know, but i really want to experience the positive side of Emersons that i hear so much about. Im just not confident buying one now. I can honestly say that if this experience had been with any other company they would get completely written off without hesitation and never see any of my coin ever again.

It says something that Im planning to buy a Kershaw collab without a second thought, but am extremely hesitant to buy the real thing.

Much respect to Ernie and those who enjoy his knives. They didn't work out for me. Im very jealous and i hope something can convince me to come around. Iill be patiently, hopefully waiting.

YMMV. I truly hope it does.

Get the zt / Emerson collab mine came PERFECT as has every other that I've read about.

Your opinion great you were able to express it. My opinion is the seller sets a price, and if the item sells it is a price people are willing to pay. As your price increases your potential buyer pool shrinks. BTW IMHO Emerson has a "cult" following, or loyal customer who buy all thing Emerson.

Spyderco, Benchmade and many other knife companies also "cult" followers, or maybe a better word is loyal customer who just love everything. Fill in the BLANK________________

Buddy went to Barret-Jackson Auto Auction the other day he and his son were looking for vintage gas & oil memorbilla. It was there, and as he said going way over value. Most of the car auction that day went for over 100K, who has all this money? NOT ME!

I went to a local gun show yesterday, kept filling my Wal-Mart water bottle off the drinking fountains, costodian mention I was beating the guy sell bottle water out of 4 bucks each time I filled up.

BTW there are some Emerson for sale all over the net for $200.00 or less.

My two cents...
Cool designs but the prices have shot up so much it
defeats my knife use purpose.
Emerson tends to stretch the truth and tell some tall tales which he
has been caught on.
I have a few models but wont be buying more only due to the newer prices.
Emerson does have some great employees. Plenty of good experiences
with them.
