Empty your pockets again.....

Same old, same old:

mleroux-Imgp2008.jpg

  • Leatherman Wave (pre-2004 model)
  • Victorinox Signature mini pocket knife
  • Sony Ericsson T630 with some PDA features (notably calendar/diary)
  • Ultra-flat Jeep leather wallet
  • White gold 'comfy-fit' (slightly thicker, rounded) wedding band
  • Seiko Perpetual Calendar Titanium
  • El Cheapo horizontal storage pouch with belt clip
  • Photon Microlight II
  • Cricket mini electronic lighter
  • Two-tone gold/stainless Parker Frontier with Gel refill
  • Matching fountain pen - not EDC, I only carry the ballpoint
  • Pentax Optio 330GS (not shown) - holiday EDC
  • Oakley A-wires
  • Keys - not shown, it's only four boring keys on a keyring anyway
My compact, discreet, magnetic-closing belt-clip-and-loop pouch is stocked like this:

Lighter (non-smoker) and Photon, then Victorinox Signature and finally the Wave on top. Easy access in order of my frequency of usage.

Raxis,

Were do I get a cool magnetic pouch like that?
Jim,

It's a pouch intended for Nokia 8000 series cellphones. You'll just have to keep an eye open in the States, but in South Africa you can buy this kind of thing at most cellular accessory shops, booths, stands and even street vendors. It closes securely with four magnets (two sewn into the lid, two in the body), so you've got good one-hand access for both opening and closing. Because it's a cellphone pouch it's good for discreet - you could say 'concealed' - carry. My phone is flat and very light, so it's happy in my right pocket.

This kind of pouch will also accommodate something like a Wave together with an Inova X1 or something of similar size.

Hi raxis,

Seems like we are in the same town. Good to see other South Africans on this esteemed site.

:D

Cool! Nice to see some locals amongst the bunch. :D

Chris Reeve is a South African, after all... I thought of him this morning when I drove past a sign pointing to an industrial area called Sebenza.

Leaving the pouch aside for a moment to concentrate on its contents, how did you decide what to carry? Your kit seems wonderfully compact -- compared my own, which I'm always trying to pare down.

Hmmm.. just threw it together. :) A multi-tool is a given, I had the Supertool given to me. The contents of the capsule... Lock picks have saved my bacon many times, I always seem to lock my keys in the car at teh wrong time. I've come to more than one gated dead end after tracking in 4wd and gotten out my picking the lock and closing the gate afterwards.

Candle, saves matches when getting a fire started, copper wire is excellent for unlocking car doors using it as a noose and slipping between window. (I'm starting to sound more like a car theif than a Deputy :))

needle and thread, handy and doubles for fishing gear. Paracord, good for everything.

I haven't thought about it much, but figured as I see other peoples stuff I would keep adjusting it. It really easy to go to fanny pack size, but this is the bare min that I carry no matter what.

Go ahead and brag. Go ahead. Okay, that's enough. ;)

Begging the captain's -- I mean deputy's :) -- pardon, but I carry my spare keys in my wallet. Perfect place for them. For me, anyway.

Gotcha covered there!

I'm probably going to make a few adjustments in my own stuff based on your gear. :)

My EDC has varied lately, but now I'm pretty much set with;

Spyderco Manix PE
Leatherman Charge XTi w/bit kit
Surefire E2EHA
on keychain;
white Arc AAA
red Photon II
in wallet;
DMT Diasharp card(fine)

in gear bag;

first aid kit
firestarter
emergency whistle w/compass
two red glowsticks
extra batteries for Surefire
small LED clip light
DMT Diafold(fine/extra fine)
Leatherman SuperTool 200

That's a good bit of kit stuffed in there...

I also carry a TAD Life Capsule. Feel naked without it...

Here is a pic of the contents of mine....I switch between the neck carry and the lanyard depending on the occasion, but I always have some on there for it's many uses...The heavy duty needles have eyes big enough to thread the inner strands of the paracord through, and the red ant lure is.....well....a red ant lure...:)

Ok, now it works...must have been a problem with the work computer. Nothing like screwing off on company time.

thanks

Changed mine up.

In school (Still not sure if the Prybaby is legal, oh well. :rolleyes: )

Prybaby: in BM small sheath, left side belt.
ID: clipped like a folder, LF
Keychain w/house key, Pulsar II, and a quick connect thing to add a SAK when I get home: RF
X5: RF
LR, RR: Wallets, one holds bus pass and watch(connected with hangman's loop) and the other, holds cash.

After comming home, I replace the ID with 722, or Dodo. And add on that SAK to my keychain. Add Charge if I plan on going somewhere or working in the garage. Same crappy lighter, LF
