Empty Your Pockets, Belts, Manbags, Etc

Nice SIG, Gehazi. I've got an old P229 that is smooth as silk, in addition to the P290 in the photo I posted

I also have an old star compact, good gun really, just love the 45, even though the 9mm is probably enough , something about the size of that bullet -- I do love sigs though, very nice , very modern guns.
I have a collection of revolvers, your ruger looked really nice, I only have the ruger 41 , the single action, when I carry a revolver I carry a 44 mag 4 inch smith and wesson "mountain gun" from around 1988 I think, has the old style hammer and no lock

No pics for now, but beginning with my left front pocket and moving clockwise, left front contains car and truck keys, tape measure, money clip with limited funds, and a ZT 0350 set up for LH carry. Right front contains a space pen, Surefire light, extra battery for said light, house and shop keys, and a Microtech DOC. Right rear has a bandana handkerchief, and a KelTec .380 in an MTR holster. Left rear has a stingray wallet with a lifetime collection of stuff, plus an extra magazine for the right rear pocket. I hope this will get me through a nice, quiet Sunday.

No pic right now on my phone and cant upload pics but have car keys with usb flashdrive key ring, 35 cents, a paperclip, bluetooth earpeice, arkansas game warden liscense holder , and granpa old timer 2 blade pen knife...on my belt i have my bk7/remora combo

Nice SIG indeed, Gehazi. I've got a p220 DAK police turn-in with triji's and it is a shooter. Hard to hide when you're Gimli, though. Phill- how's the p290? I think the little 9's are fascinating. I remember when those came out.
As to caliber, give me a service pistol that runs right and is 7.62x25 and up (9,40,45) and I'm happy.
As one of my South African friends said to a new guy pining for a 1911 when they gave him a Glock 19-
"You don't need a .45, you need to be able to SHOOT."

The P290 is a great little gun. The trigger was very heavy at first but it has broken in nicely. It can be a bit uncomfortable to shoot with the flush-fit magazine. Definitely a 2-finger grip. It comes with an extended one that helps a lot, though. It kicks way more than my glock 19 but not quite as much as the P229 in .40. For what it is I think it's great.

LOVE my glock 19, too.

Bawanna- don't get me wrong, I love my 1911- it's what I grew up on. Just gotten adaptable in my dotage, is all. Still shoot a ton of .45, ehether in the officers ACP, the 1911 or the SIG. So easy to reload that round...
Phill- glad the 290's live up to what I'd hoped. All the little service caliber guns are pretty smacky-and loud.
I carried a G19 at a job overseas and shot an embarrassing amount of the host nation's ammo (+/- 50,000 rounds :/...)
Two failures to feed. Both funky rounds. Kinda sold me on Glocks as working guns, though aesthetically they don't do much for me.

Ive had one failed round out of my Glock 22 and it just happened to be during my CHL test. It just fizzled. I cleared it and got a spare from my pocket and managed to get it off as the target was turning away and got 10mm outside the line which didnt count so I scored 249 out of 250 points. It never failed me again. Like you said. They aint the prettiest but they are reliable. I now have a Glock 30 and dont like it as much as my G22. More expensive to shoot also.

don't like 9mm or .40 , there are only two viable rounds in the world the .308 and the .45( obv for rifles and pistols) but I really am with bawanna on this, 45 is best mainly because no matter where you shoot someone it will put them into shock.( allegedly from the tales of my vietnam old man)

I have been carrying the Glock pistol since 1991, we carried the model 21 45cal, I cant tell you how many rounds went through my first one but I carried that pistol for 13 years between patrol and entry team training. When we purchased newer ones I retired the old and and took a new one simply for the light rail on the frame. I actually still have my old pistol and use it regularly. Just as JW said they are not pretty but boy are they functional. When you carry something that your life depends on, it has to work every single time no matter what and I can attest to the Glock on that line. I am a big fan of the 1911 as well, I have a sweet custom Gold Cup and it shoots like a dream. I am not a fan of the .40, I have seen many failures of the gun itself, the round pounds the gun to death and without getting all technical the.40 has more chamber pressure than all the standard pistol rounds. Give me a 9 or a 45 and im set. The last few years of work I carried my 18 and 36 mostly.

My .45 is double stacked mag and my short fat fingers make it a bit too fat for my hands but manageable. The single stack mag of my .40 was more comfortable but is full length barrel. I still carried it on a paddle holster on my belt tho. I liked my Ruger LCP cause you could stash it anywhere but the dang thing misfired about every ten shots. The crimson trace laser was cool and natural but one cant deal with the misfire and stay alive in a bad situation. I wish someone would make something like the LCP but in .40 cal. I do feel confident with 10+rnds of .45 in my pocket tho!

^^^ This precisely. Ndog, take a look at Kahr. They have a CM40 which is small and puts the LCP to shame. I don't endorse it in 40 but it's great in 9 and soon there's suppose to be a CM45. I have a PM45, basically a premium CM on me all the time. 40 is just too much buck for a compact.

I'm not wil about .40-but it's almost always available and the 155gr lawman is a good load.
It does penetrate barriers better than .45 but not like 9 ball- i can't afford to shoot the .40 enough to break it...and for the reasons Pugs points out (max pressure loads are pretty standard) I'm not in a hurry to reload for it.
It does put a lot of whomp in a g19 sized package, but if glock made a g23 sized .45 that's what i'd likely have.

I prefer a .45 over all others, but .357 comes in a very close second.
I have a 9mm Glock but its not my favorite...it IS ridiculously reliable.
The last ammo drought sold me on the merits of the .40. I purchased an FNS-40 pretty much because of the shortage. After shooting the tar out of it, I rather like the performance and availability of the .40.

As a matter of fact, it's on my hip today. It's my cold weather gun because of the extended trigger guard...great for gloved hands:)
Stuck a SOG seal pup in my boot, and I'm ready to go today:)
